A few of the actors share their opinions of what their favorite stuff was this past year and who impressed them most etc.
SCOTT CLIFTON (Liam)
What was the highlight of the year for you, storyline wise?
"The whole Aspen thing, especially everything from Hope and Liam getting engaged, so Steffy and Liam getting married. It's been really interesting to play. I've had to play it really carefully, because there are a lot of ways you can mess that up. And I had to play Liam really carefully, because you don't want Liam looking like a bad guy, but there are moments when he's going to be a bad guy! He's going to make really stupid, unethical decisions. But by virtue that it was a challenge, it was really intriguing. I really, really enjoyed it. And plus, I got to make out with two hot chicks at the same time!"
Other than your own, what do you think was your show's best storyline this year?
"The Bill/Steffy/Katie triangle. Heather [Tom, Katie] is unbelievable. She just knocked that whole storyline out of the park. She was so good and so raw, and I can't even imagine watching that story and not having your empathy 100 percent go to her. And of course, Bill was in the middle of this, and it was really interesting to watch him try to balance these two women in this affair, and trying to do the right thing and be honest in the end. He was cheating and manipulative, but that combination of those three interacting with each other was so smart. I really enjoyed it."
Was there a performance or a storyline on another show that stood out to you this year?
"That's a great question, and we should have answers to it. I really regret not watching the ends of GL, ATWT and AMC, just to see how they were resolved. They had characters on there for so long."
ZACK CONROY (Oliver)
What was the highlight of the year for you, storyline wise?
"I really enjoyed the Veterans Day story. It was fun meeting those people, and I had some pretty cool experiences. That was fun. Storyline wise, it was kind of funny to see Oliver proposing to Hope. That was funny."
Other than your own, what do you think was your show's best storyline this year?
"I liked the island stuff with Thomas and Brooke. That was cool. It was cool how they shot on the beach, and I think it would be cool to do. I enjoyed watching it."
What performance on your show do you think was a standout this year?
"We have so many great actors on the show, but Adam Gregory (Thomas) has really come into his own this year. He's done a great job handling the load of being part of the main family."
Was there a performance or a storyline on another show that stood out to you this year?
"Marcy Rylan (Abby, Y&R) is doing a great job! Every time I turn on Y&R, she's killing it. She's one of my good friends and played my sister on my last show (GUIDING LIGHT), so I try to keep up. The way that she can play not pregnant when she's really pregnant is great! This was the second time around, and she was even doing it better."
DON DIAMONT (Bill)
What was the highlight of the year for you, storyline wise?
"Liam being in the hospital. I thought that all was great, and of course, Katie with the heart attack. We saw Bill in a way that you almost never see him. And I like the fun stuff too, a lot of the Bill and Liam stuff."
ADAM GREGORY (Thomas)
What was the highlight of the year for you, storyline wise?
"I really enjoyed our plane crash. That was a lot of fun, because they let me do some different things and we got to experience a whole new side of Thomas, so that was fun. Not a lot of people get to develop a character in a time of crisis or trying to be the hero, so that was interesting to try to play with."
What performance on your show do you think was a standout this year?
"Susan [Flanery, Stephanie] wows me a lot, but I do like John McCook (Eric). He has this way about him that is so nonchalant. He brings an elegance to the show, and it's just funny to see him in real life and see how goofy and dorky he is, and then all of a sudden, he goes and plays my grandfather, who is such an elegant man. I can't take him seriously! But he'll throw a comedic performance in there every once in a while that reads really well and gives his character a lot of depth, for me."
Other than your own, what do you think was your show's best storyline this year?
"The Aspen thing was cool. The footage looked great up there. It was beautifully done, and it captured Aspen very well. And everybody says it was a lot of fun, so I was pretty jealous."
Was there a performance or a storyline on another show that stood out to you this year?
"I wouldn't know any of the character names, but just being here on set, it's always interesting to watch the Y&R people do their thing. Their type of characters are on the opposite side of the spectrum, I think. It's very, how do I put it, gritty. It's extremely gritty, everything that they do, and I like the grittiness of their work. Christian LeBlanc [Michael] is great. He's funny. He plays such a cool bad guy who's smart with an attitude."
KATHERINE KELLY LANG (Brooke)
What was the highlight of the year for you, storyline wise?
"The beach story. It was the only real story I've been involved in! And my dress had one, tiny little rip in it, and I went, 'That's it? After that horrific ordeal?' so I ripped it more myself!"
What performance on your show do you think was a standout this year?
"The scenes with Thomas. I had so much fun doing those, and I saw him come out as a different person, not just Thomas at Forrester. He kind of wowed me, and he showed up one day and [had such a deep voice in the scene], and I went, "What? Who are you?" and he's like, "I started taking voice classes!" And it was really cute; he was into getting better in every way possible, and he started taking these voice classes, had one lesson, and all of a sudden, his voice became commanding and self-assertive and all that stuff. So I thought he was really good. He was really putting himself into it all."
KIM MATULA (Hope)
What was the highlight of the year for you, storyline wise?
"The Hope and Liam love struggle has been very prominent. They were always breaking up and getting back together, and they've had a very epic love story. It's definitely something I've never done before as far as storyline goes, and you always have to find something to pull from when you're doing the scenes, and that can be challenging when it's something you've never experienced in real life or never played on a show before. It's all brand new."
Other than your own, what do you think was your show's best storyline this year?
"The berries! The magic berries, that was interesting. The episodes were pretty magical."
What performance on your show do you think was a standout this year?
"Jacqueline MacInnes Wood had a really great performance where Bill told Steffy that he was going back to Katie and that he was for sure leaving her. That was a really good scene on Jacquie's part."
Was there a performance or a storyline on another show that stood out to you this year?
"I'm going to say, even though I didn't watch it, Sarah Michelle Gellar (ex-Kendall) went back and did an episode of ALL MY CHILDREN, and I'm a big fan of hers. So I'm sure whatever she did was great!"
JOHN MCCOOK (Eric)
Other than your own, what do you think was your show's best storyline this year?
"I liked that standard story that Amber was doing, pretending the baby was somebody else's when it wasn't. That was good. It's classic soap, but you do it again, and you do it again, and you do it again, but with different people, because it works."
What performance on your show do you think was a standout this year?
"I think that Bill Spencer is a really good addition to our show. In my life of the show, he's very recent. He has been here a couple years at least, but that's a new addition to me. I think he's really good, because he's a good bad guy. He does a great job, Don Diamont, at being this nasty Eric Braeden (Victor, Y&R) kind of guy, and yet he has great vulnerability with his wife. He plays a really well-rounded character, so I have to give him a lot of props for that. And I think any story he's been involved in has been really good."
