A person I know posted an interview with KKL from a norweigan magazine and I read it through a bit and it said that an interview with "Stephanie" and "Eric" is coming Sunday. Tomorrow?
If they post it online, like this one, I will post it here. And of course translate the best I can. As as Swede, I can understand a lot of Norweigan.

Susan «Stephanie» Flannery (71) is thinking of leaving «Glamour», but her husband on the show, John «Eric» McCook (66), never wants to quit.
He plays the fashion king Eric Forrester on «The Bold and The Beautiful», as the show is named in original. And John McCook (66) never gets tired. Next year the world’s most watched soap opera can celebrate 25 years on the air, and McCook have been with the show since the start in 1987. After New Year the show passed 6000 episodes and McCook have seen them all.
- It’s my job. It is what I live on. I cannot let one single episode from me, reveals McCook to VG Net on telephone from Los Angeles.
Broadcasts in 110 countries
Even if the 66 year old the last 24 years has had sporadic roles in other TV-series, it is as the designer king Eric Forrester that he is known for to the entire world. «Glamour» is broadcasted in 110 countries and has 30 million viewers in total.
- Do you never get tired?
- No, not really. I have never been tempted to leave the show. I realized 10-15 years ago that this will probably never end. The colleagues of mine feel like family, and the TV-way feel like my safe place. I want to be there until I can’t do it anymore – until the producers call my wife and says: ”He’s dead. Come and get him”, says a smiling McCook.
Wants to give up
Susan Flannery (71) plays Stephanie Forrester in the series - Eric Forrester’s on-and-off wife. Flannery has also been there from the start of the show 24 years, but the 71 year old admits to VG Net that she is thinking of giving up. Nor does she watch the episodes on TV. Just a few.
- I think I’ll hold out two more years, but then it’s probably the end, says the woman who for all these years has filled the role of the Forrester matriarch – despite the turbulent marriage to McCook’s character.
- The last couple of years have been a little heavy. It happens that it gets a bit… enough… But I won’t leave tomorrow, Flannery adds with a small laughter.
Does not believe her
McCook does not take the co-star’s ”threat” of leaving seriously.
- Susan has said for 20 years that she will leave in two years, so I don’t believe it, McCook giggles, who admits that he cannot either imagine the show without Flannery.
- After all these years she feels like your wife in reality, right?
- Yes, absolutely! I use to say I have been married for 30 years to my wife and 24 years with Susan. Susan is my showbiz-wife. We spend hours together in the dressing room every day, and we share a lot – even private things, McCook explains.
- Privileged
He gets the best praise back. Even if Flannery’s character repeatedly may get pushed out in the cold because the fashion king gets a new and younger wife, the both characters share an unbreakable bond.
- I love John very very much. He is so charming and talented. I feel very privileged to have had him as a co-star for all these years. We have a long history, explains Flannery who is not married in reality.
- The viewers know he loves her
TVNorge is one year behind the American air schedule. McCook wishes nevertheless to calm Norwegian TV-viewers that Eric and Stephanie – who are divorced in present phase of the series – will find each other again.
- Eric has an endless love for Stephanie. He will never stop loving her. He knows that himself deep inside. The viewers know that too. And Stephanie tolerates all his capers because she knows that he will come back. If she was devastated, she would never tolerate it. But Stephanie just rolls her eyes, something I moreover think she won’t have to do anymore, McCook reveals to his Norwegian fans.
Difficult to play angry
McCook smiles a lot. He is a cheerful man, he explains. Not anywhere near the serious character Eric Forrester.
- The thing I work hardest on is to play outraged. I am never that angry in real life. It is much easier to play loving, says McCook who assures that he has difficulties to see common features with his character.
- We are both devoted fathers. But that is also the only likeness. I am no rich businessman like Eric. I am not rich at all. Maybe I have success, but I have not gotten rich on this character, says the 66 year old without wanting to say what he makes.
Disliked the rape story
Susan Flannery does not need long time to think when VG Net asks her what story on the show that has been the most difficult for her to play.
- It was when Brooke (played by Katherine Kelly Lang) was raped a few years ago. I disliked that time. Especially because they also wanted my character to be partly responsible for what happened. I hated that idea from the start, and I made that clear, Flannery explains.
Touched by death scene
On the other hand, the actress appreciates two other very difficult stories high. The first was when her character many years ago ended up on the streets and lived as a homeless person. That setting struck a nerve in the actress, and she was awarded with the prestigious Emmy-statuette for her performance.
- It was a present thing in the society and is as important today. The homeless are people like you and me, who has hit a setback, explains Flannery, who adds a fairly fresh scene when she bid farewell to her mother on the show (played by Betty White (89)). That scene also made Flannery win an Emmy.
- I myself thought it was very touching. It is something everyone can relate to. Everyone has experienced a strained relationship to a mother or father. I am so happy I could through the show spread the message about how you may solve your conflicts before you die. I hope that also the Norwegian TV-viewers can take in, Flannery says to VG Net.
- Like a Greek tragedy
Even if John McCook himself brings out the scenes with Flannery as the most giving, he admits that the marriage with Brooke (played by Katherine Kelly Lang) is something of what has touched him most during the years he has been there.
- We had the incredible hot-air balloon in our wedding. And it was something touching to be married to this beautiful woman who really just wanted to be married to my son (Ridge Forrester, played by Ronn Moss). It was like a Greek tragedy, McCook remembers.
Married for the third time
On question about how it feels to time and time again leave wife Stephanie for the show’s younger beauties, the 66 year old replies:
- As long as it is a great story, it’s good. I think it is challenging to play against women of all ages. But what Eric does on the love front does absolutely not harmonize with who I am in real life, assures McCook who is married to Laurette Spang (59). The marriage that has lasted for 30 years is his third, and the couple have three children together. McCook also has a child from before.
Rivals are close friends
A lot of the stories on B&B revolves around the rivalry between Flannery’s character Stephanie and Brooke. Flannery assures that she and the arch enemy on the show are good friends privately.
- I could come up with a good story and say I hate her as much as on-screen, but the truth is rather boring. Katherine is fantastic and I love her. We are good friends, Flannery says.
Blows in fashion
Both McCook and Flannery mean that the show’s long success lies in the good writers, dramatic love stories, short episodes and an insight in a glamorous life with fashion in the center. But even if the plot is set in the world of fashion, both reveals that they are indifferent to fashion.
- I only have one suit at home! I walk around in jeans and t-shirt, or sportswear, McCook smiles.
Flannery says she was interested in clothes before, but not anymore.
- I came to a point where I thought: ”to hell with it”, I don’t bother. But they take care of me on the show and makes me look pretty good, the 71 year old smiles.
About looks
That they do not care about clothes does not mean that Flannery or McCook are not vain.
- We all try to live as healthy as we can and hold ourselves thin. When I put on weight, it shows most in my face. It seems like all the pounds end up there. I am very self-critical on that point, McCook reveals.
Flannery adds: - Age is about where you are mentally. For me it is about working a constant mental challenge. And it is healthy for people no matter how old they are.
Has been to Norway
The 71 year old has never been married, but has a daughter in her 20s. The daughter lives in Australia. Flannery has never enjoyed spreading out the private life publicly.
- The viewers relate to me as an actress. And as long as I deliver, I think I fulfill my obligations, says Flannery – who is the only one in the B&B core that has visited Norway.
- I was there in 1997, as part of a round tour. Then I visited Oslo. Everyone was so cozy. I love Scandinavia with the long bright days, says the soap vet who does not say that she won’t come back some time.
Death on the road
Since the beginning of B&B in 1997, many of the actors have died.
The most central who has passed, are Darlene Conley, who played Forresters arch enemy Sally Spectra. She died in 2007 – 73 years old. Michael Fox, who played tailor Saul Feinberg, died in 1996 – 75 years old.
If they post it online, like this one, I will post it here. And of course translate the best I can. As as Swede, I can understand a lot of Norweigan.
