Betty White never expected to be on Saturday Night Live, much less host it. Now, at 88, she's by far the show's oldest host ever.
A movie with Sandra Bullock and a Snickers commercial during the Super Bowl boosted White's profile in recent months but she's been a TV regular since 1949, winning two Emmys in the 1970s for the "Mary Tyler Moore Show" and another in the 1980s as one of "The Golden Girls".
Still, it took the internet to give White this unexpected opportunity.
"There was something on Facebook," she said. "A young man put it on his Facebook and said he'd like to have me do Saturday Night Live."
More than half a million people agreed with him, enough to convince SNL's producers to give White the chance.
She tried to pass.
"I spoke to my agent and said to tell them, 'Thank you very much but no thank you,' but my agent, or maybe I should say he's maybe going to be my ex-agent, said 'You've got to do it.'"
