Monday, February 2nd
Ridge worked on the replacement line of clothing to make up for the stolen designs. Brooke expressed her doubts that Rick was the thief. Ridge said that was a topic they should not get into. A model walked in wearing a shiny silver dress, and Ridge's face went white. He said that dress was supposed to be for his late daughter Phoebe, and after her death, Ridge had it pulled from the line. He had no idea how it had made it into production. He lamented to Brooke about all of Phoebe's dreams and hopes that would never happen.
Ridge told Brooke that the night of their engagement party would haunt him forever. He clearly remembered holding Phoebe in his arms as she quietly slipped away. Ridge said if he could have died with her that night, he would have. He expressed that he had an endless empty feeling that gnawed at his heart. Although Ridge knew time healed all wounds, he said he had lost all sense of time. He said time had become before Phoebe died and afterward, and Ridge told Brooke that afterward was a very dark place.
Stephanie continued to lurk in the closet and spy on Steffy and Rick. She certainly got her money's worth when she heard Rick confess to stealing Eric's designs. Steffy reminded Rick that what he did was wrong but she realized he stole the designs out of love for her. When Stephanie heard the two of them confess their love for one another, she rolled her eyes in disgust.
Steffy said when Rick first admitted to stealing the designs from Eric, she was furious with him, and frightened of him, too. She said she thought he was crazy. Rick admitted that he had been crazy when he stole the designs. But once Rick explained his reasons for stealing the designs, his passion won her over. Steffy swore she would not turn her back on Rick. They discussed how angry Ridge would be when he found out they were involved. Rick planned to enlist Brooke's help to turn Ridge around. Stephanie was in the bedroom about to burst through the walls with each new word from Rick. Rick bragged about how Brooke could work her magic on Ridge and bring him around. Steffy said it was too soon, and Rick agreed to keep their relationship a secret for the time being. Rick asked Steffy is their love was real and gave her an out if she wanted to change her mind. Steffy proclaimed that Rick had all of her.
Brooke called and asked Steffy to stop by the office to visit Ridge. Brooke explained that Ridge was having a rough day and was missing Phoebe. Brooke thought it would cheer Ridge up to see Steffy. Steffy agreed to go to her Dad.
Steffy went to see Ridge and he explained to her how upset he was when he saw the dress he had designed for her sister. Steffy said she understood about grief-it snuck up on you when you least expected it. Ridge asked her not to let his bad day become hers. Steffy reassured her dad and said she had plenty of distractions. Ridge got a nervous look on his face and asked her not to get distracted while she was driving. She promised to drive safely and asked Ridge to have faith. He said he was working on it, but it was easy for someone to take advantage of someone as sweet and trusting as Steffy.
Ridge stepped back from the embrace, Steffy said she saw that frightened look in Ridge's eyes again and could tell that he was worried about losing her. Steffy assured him that wouldn't happen. Ridge said it was natural for fathers to want to protect their little girls.
Steffy pointed out the obvious-- Phoebe was not a little girl when she died,; she was an adult who made the choice to get in Rick's car. Steffy said Ridge could not have protected her from her own decisions. She reminded Ridge that Phoebe was angry and stubborn, and had not gotten out of the car when Rick asked her to. Ridge said he blamed Rick because he had never seen Phoebe angry enough to be out of control before Rick was in her life. Ridge said Phoebe's death was Rick's fault, period. He proclaimed he never wanted to see Steffy anywhere near Rick.
As soon as Steffy left, Stephanie revealed herself and scared the daylights out of Rick. Stephanie asked Rick what he thought Ridge would do to him once he found out Rick was after Steffy. Stephanie said Rick was a thief who had stolen Ridge's designs and wanted to steal his daughter, too. Rick protested and said it was not like that, he and Steffy had come together in their grief over Phoebe and made a genuine connection. Stephanie wasn't buying his line, and accused Rick of using Steffy to hurt Ridge. Rick asked why he would want it to remain a secret from Ridge if he were trying to stick it to him. Stephanie supposed that Rick was waiting for the right moment to throw it in Ridge's face.
Rick tried his best to convince Stephanie that he and Steffy were in love. Stephanie said that Rick was incapable of love and was a young man filled with rage. She also pointed out that Steffy was young and thought of the relationship as some Romeo and Juliet situation, and Stephanie reminded Rick that everyone knew how badly that relationship ended. Rick told Stephanie it was not her choice-- he and Steffy were in love. Stephanie threatened Rick and said she would stop at nothing to keep the two of them apart.

At the beach house, Rick assured Stephanie that her threats against him were futile because he was in love with Steffy and wouldn't give her up. Stephanie warned him that Ridge and Brooke had already suffered enough because of Rick. She said he had to give up Steffy and stop hurting his mother and Ridge.
Meanwhile, at Forrester, Steffy was trying to make her father understand that she was not Phoebe and he didn't have to worry about her night and day. Ridge declared that if he had acted sooner, Rick wouldn't have hurt Phoebe. Ridge was very sure of himself when he said that he would never forgive Rick for what he did. Steffy hoped that in time, he'd find a way to forgive Rick, but Ridge insisted that there were some tragedies in life that you could never overcome, and this was one of them. He said that even though Rick apologized for the accident, Ridge didn't believe him. He also stunned Steffy by telling her that he knew Rick had kissed Steffy.
She asked what he was talking about, fearful that he was onto their love affair. But that wasn't it; Ridge explained that Stephanie had told him that Rick tried to provoke Ridge's anger by kissing Steffy weeks before. She was relieved for a moment, until Ridge went on and on about how he would protect Steffy the way he should have protected Phoebe before her death.
Steffy told her father that if Phoebe were still alive, she would tell Ridge not to blame himself. Just as Steffy and Ridge were embracing, Brooke walked in to tell Ridge that a client from Hong Kong was waiting in Eric's office to speak with him about the postponed collection.
Back in Malibu, Stephanie asked Rick to promise her that he would stop his affair with Steffy for Ridge's sake. She explained that losing Phoebe was too much for Ridge to endure. Full of righteous indignation, Stephanie wondered how Rick could sleep at night after what he'd done to Phoebe. Rick screamed that he didn't sleep at night because he was haunted by the accident. Every night he relived the events over and over in his dreams. He said he could still see Ridge holding Phoebe as she died.
Stephanie told Rick that she believed he hated Ridge, but Rick declared that he didn't hate him anymore. Stephanie didn't believe him, and accused Rick of going after Steffy to get revenge on Ridge. Rick begged Stephanie to understand that he loved Steffy with all his heart and that he could not end something as beautiful and pure as their love. He just couldn't give her up.
Stephanie reminded Rick that Eric's love for him had been all-forgiving, but an affair with Steffy might be too much for his father to accept. Stephanie also pointed out that Taylor didn't blame Rick for the wreck, but she might not be as understanding if Rick ruined Steffy's relationship with Ridge. Stephanie tried to make Rick prove that he was not a defiant, vengeful young man by walking away from Steffy.
Showing sympathy, Stephanie said she understood how painful Rick's childhood was, but if he wanted to regain some self-respect, he had to do the right thing. She urged him to be selfless and let Steffy go. Stephanie warned that he'd be hurting her more than he knew by forcing Steffy to choose between her family and him.
Brooke was grateful to Steffy for coming to see Ridge. Steffy wished that Ridge would someday forgive Rick. Brooke said that she'd been trying to help Ridge deal with his grief, but she was worried that something else might come along to upset him. Brooke appreciated that Steffy was in Rick's corner, but she wondered if Steffy was also grieving because she'd lost her twin. Steffy claimed that Phoebe was still with her. She believed that Phoebe would have forgiven Rick. Steffy then vigorously defended Rick to Brooke, saying that Rick wasn't a bad person, no matter what happened. Ridge returned from the meeting because he needed to spend time with Steffy. He said Steffy was forgiving of Rick because she had a big heart. He announced that he would never be that forgiving of Rick.
Rick told Stephanie that he was not taking advantage of Steffy. Stephanie believed that Steffy was too vulnerable to know what she was doing with Rick. Stephanie was certain that if Ridge found out about Steffy and Rick, the wounds between them would never heal. She painted a picture of the future in which Ridge was inconsolably angry and Steffy was consumed by guilt and unable to find peace and joy. Stephanie asked him if that was what he really wanted.
Ridge and Steffy made a date to go to the movies the next week. He remembered Steffy and Phoebe as little girls, and wished he could turn back the clock. Ridge hoped Steffy wouldn't run off with a Prince Charming any time soon, and she promised to always be his little girl. After Steffy left, Brooke told Ridge what a remarkable young woman she'd become. Ridge thanked Brooke for getting Steffy to visit because he had really needed to see her.
In the hallway, Steffy read at a clipping about Rick's success and hoped she could please her father and have Rick, too.
Stephanie reminded Rick all about his womanizing in Paris, not to mention his affair with Taylor. Rick told Stephanie that what he felt for Steffy was pure and from the heart. Stephanie said if he wanted Steffy happy, Rick should be willing to let her go.
In a moment of candid emotion, Stephanie grew wistful as she remembered how much she had loved Rick as a little boy. She blamed Eric and Brooke for the selfish man he had become. Stephanie agreed that if Rick left Steffy right away, Steffy would be hurt, but it would be a hurt she could deal with. On the other hand, if Steffy and Rick continued to sneak around, the truth would come out and it would be a tragic mistake.
With tears in his eyes, Rick asked Stephanie to stop saying those things. Unwilling to be denied, Stephanie urged Rick to prove his love for Steffy by letting her go.

Wednesday, February 4
Nick asked Jackie to reveal the name of their new designer. Jackie explained that the designer was a private person and preferred to only work with Jackie. Nick pressed for a name, so Jackie dropped Madame X.
Nick rolled his eyes and asked if he could go back and live on his boat. Jackie said no. Katie arrived and Jackie made a beeline for the door. Katie said that Jackie would have to face her eventually. Jackie urged Katie to get whatever it was she wanted to say off her chest.
Katie said since Jackie had taken Ridge and Eric's designs, they were forced to redesign an entirely new collection. Jackie reminded Katie that she did not steal the designs; they were given to her. Katie pointed out to Jackie that since Katie was engaged to Nick and worked for Forrester, the stolen designs would reflect badly on her. Jackie said she was sorry if she put Katie in an awkward position, but she had to save her company and would do it again if necessary. Nick jumped in and defended his mother. Nick said it was ultimately his choice to use the designs. Katie suspected Jackie had pressured Nick into it, but he took the blame. Nick urged Katie to get over it and move past the situation.
A mysterious figure tossed a black wig on the bed. She began to dress in black stockings, heels and a flaming red dress and lipstick. She pulled the wig down over her head, but her face was not revealed. She showed up at the office of Jackie M, and Jackie saw through the disguise. It was Bridget! Jackie explained that she had told Nick the new designer's name was Madame X. Nick walked in and Bridget quickly put her sunglasses back on. She extended her gloved hand, introduced herself as Madame X and dropped some pleasantries in French.
Stephanie showed up on Rick's doorstep first thing in the morning and invited herself in for coffee. Rick said he hadn't made any. Stephanie said she had really stopped by just to make certain Rick had gotten the message and planned to end things with Steffy. Rick said he had not slept all night. Stephanie said she hadn't, either, and asked what that had to do with anything. Rick said he stayed up all night thinking about her request. The premise that Ridge would never accept Rick and Steffy was faulty, according to Rick's midnight epiphany.
Rick said Ridge loved Steffy and would ask her what she wanted. Steffy would explain to Ridge that she was in love with Rick, and according to Rick, if Ridge truly loved his daughter, he would have to give in to what she wanted. Stephanie looked at him like he was a lunatic. Stephanie said she had given Rick the chance to do the right thing, and if he didn't end things with Steffy, he would regret it, and that Steffy would, too.
Rick said he wanted a future with Steffy. Stephanie said any future the two of them had would be marred by conflict and hostility. Stephanie said she understood that the concept of "you and me against the world" was terribly romantic. But she reminded Rick that he and Steffy wouldn't just be fighting her, but their entire family.
Stephanie asked Rick if he really wanted to battle with her. Rick said he was not afraid of Stephanie, and she said, "You should be," and she left.
Steffy arrived at the beach house. Rick warned her that they had a big problem. Rick had to tell Steffy that her grandmother had been spying on them and had overheard their conversation from the night before. Stephanie knew they had a relationship and knew about the stolen designs. Steffy started shaking and hyperventilating. Rick told her to calm down. Steffy explained that her grandmother never bluffed, and she knew Stephanie would work to split them up no matter whom she hurt in the process.
Stephanie showed up at Taylor's house unannounced and Taylor was delighted to see her. She had been weeping and said she was happy Stephanie stopped by, because she really needed to hear some good news. Sadly, that was not the sort of news that Stephanie planned to deliver.
Taylor explained that she smelled coffee when she woke up and thought Phoebe was downstairs making breakfast. Taylor admitted she had gone so far as to call out Phoebe's name before she realized Phoebe was gone. Stephanie asked how Steffy was handling her grief. Taylor said she had spoken to Steffy and warned her that since she lost her twin, she was extremely vulnerable. Taylor said she explained to Steffy that when a person felt that large of a void, they could try to fill it in positive or negative ways. Stephanie pounced on her opportunity to let Taylor know Steffy was filling that void in a negative way.
Stephanie began to explain that Steffy was involved with a man she hadn't mentioned to her family. Before Stephanie named names, Steffy and Rick walked into Taylor's house together. Taylor put two and two together and started screaming, "No!"

Thursday, February 5
At Taylor's house, Taylor furiously asked Rick why he was so intent on hurting her family. She conjectured that he still hated her for breaking off their engagement. Rick argued that he was in love with Steffy, but Taylor refused to listen. She reminded him that she never blamed him for Phoebe's death. Even when everyone else blamed him, she said she stood by him. She warned him that he could not take another of her daughters.
Stephanie added that Rick was only using Steffy. Stephanie reminded Rick that he told her he was using Steffy to break up Ridge and Brooke. Rick said it started out that way, but it changed. He and Steffy loved each other. Steffy agreed. Taylor freaked out. She blasted Steffy and Rick, reminding both of them that Rick told Taylor the same thing months earlier. She warned Rick that she would protect Steffy. She told Steffy and Rick that their relationship was over.
Steffy tried to explain to her mother that she and Rick had found a common ground in their grief over Phoebe's death. Rick mentioned Phoebe's name, and Taylor screamed at him that she didn't even want him to utter her name.
Stephanie wondered what had happened to Marcus, but Steffy explained her feelings for Marcus were a crush. Taylor blasted Rick again and asked if he had a crush on Steffy or if he really loved her. She noted that Ashley, Phoebe, Taylor, and Steffy -- every woman he had been with in his recent past -- had ties to Ridge.
Taylor told Steffy that Ridge would never accept her in a relationship with Rick. Steffy admitted that she worried about her dad's reaction, but she begged her mother to soften. Taylor refused. Stephanie warned Rick and Steffy to end it. She sent Rick off with a warning that she would call the police. Taylor insisted that Rick get out of the house. She then begged Steffy to understand that the family couldn't handle her relationship after all they had been through.
At Jackie M, Jackie introduced Nick to Madame X-Bridget in disguise. Jackie set up an interview with Jarrett, the Eye on Fashion reporter. She pushed Bridget behind a screen and lit her in silhouette, but told Jarrett that Madame X had developed some new designs that would rival any others in the fashion world. She shared a few of them with Jarrett. He was impressed.
Nick later quizzed Madame X about her background and cagily told the designer she had a surgeon's touch, as if a doctor was hunting for a new career. He called her bluff and recognized her as Bridget.
At Forrester, Ridge continued his tirade of blaming Rick for sending their designs to Jackie M. Eric encouraged him to let it go, but Ridge even brought up Sally Spectra's name. He likened Jackie to Sally. Jarrett showed up. He tattled to Eric and Ridge that Jackie M's new designer, Madame X, showed some promising talent. Ridge and Eric scoffed that it was a publicity stunt, but Jarrett disagreed and shared a few of the designs. Eric admitted the designs were impressive, but asked for more information on Madame X's identity.

Nick was not fooled by 'Madame X's' elaborate disguise. He told Bridget he would have recognized her in any outfit. Nick asked who the real designer was. He absolutely refused to believe that Bridget had drawn the designs herself. She worked hard to convince him and mentioned that she had taken a leave of absence from the hospital to pursue her dreams. Bridget reminded Nick that designing was in her blood. She explained that she did not want to trade on her family name and wanted to make it on her own, which is why she had come to Jackie M incognito.
Outside, Clarke asked Jackie to divulge the dirt on their new designer. Jackie made him promise not to tell a soul the identity of the new designer. Once she had his word, she informed him that Madame X was Bridget Forrester. Clarke said he refused to take orders from a doctor with no design experience. Clarke said she knew how to wear a dress, but doubted she could design one. Jackie assured him that Bridget was quite talented at design and would be a valuable asset to Jackie M.
Clarke reminded Jackie that Bridget and Nick's marriage ended badly, and he wondered aloud if they would be able to work together. Jackie said Bridget and Nick had been very happy together before "that awful Katie Logan" had come between them.
Back in the office, Bridget said Jackie convinced her that Nick didn't work closely with the design team. She proposed that if Nick would keep his distance from her, they shouldn't have a problem. Nick said he had tried to keep his distance from the company and let his mother run things, but Jackie M almost went bankrupt. Nick said he realized he would have to start working more closely with the designers.
Nick said that if Bridget gave up medicine to pursue design, he knew she must be serious about it. After the way he had hurt her, he said he would do anything to help her achieve her dreams. Nick left the final decision in Bridget's hands-- he asked if she could she work for Jackie M knowing that Nick would be involved.
Bridget said it probably wouldn't be wise for the two of them to work together. Jackie walked in and overheard Bridget's pronouncement. Jackie said Jackie M was her company, and she was the decision maker. Her decision was that Bridget and Nick would do whatever was necessary to make it work, because she needed them both to stay on.
Rick dropped by to see Brooke, but she was visiting with Beth. Rick decided against airing his dirty laundry in front of his grandmother.
Grandma Beth showed Rick photos from Brooke and Ridge's private wedding. Rick looked puzzled, and Brooke explained the Ridge had hired secret photographers to hide on the cliff and shoot pictures their wedding.
Rick said he hated to interrupt, but really needed to talk to his mom. He succeeded in chasing Beth off and finally had Brooke to himself. He said he had news, and wanted Brooke to know she wasn't the only one who was in love. Rick announced that he had found someone, too, and was very happy about it. Brooke smiled brightly at her son's joy.
Brooke asked if she knew the girl, and Rick sheepishly said yes, adding that Brooke knew her very well. Brooke looked at him in anticipation. Rick went on and on extolling the wonders of his new love interest. He said she was someone he could picture himself spending the rest of his life with. He continued to build the anticipation without dropping a name. Brooke became impatient and asked Rick to stop holding out on her and to divulge the girl's identity. When Rick said it was Steffy, Brooke's face fell as if someone had punched her. She asked Rick to clarify that he was speaking of Ridge's daughter. He said yes.
Brooke screamed at the top of her lungs and said the Rick could not be in love with Steffy. Brooke reminded Rick that when the whole family had turned their backs on him, she took his side. He thanked her for that and swore he was not trying to cause problems for Brooke and Ridge. Brooke said she stood by Rick when Ridge and Stephanie had accused him of stealing Eric's designs. Rick said they were right; he was the one who stole the designs. Brooke's jaw dropped even further. She was shocked and appalled in equal measure. Rick explained he had done it for Steffy, so the two of them could have a future away from the disapproval of their families. Brooke said Rick was obviously still consumed with revenge She accused him of being with Steffy simply to get back at Ridge. She announced that she would not allow it. Rick looked at her as if she were insane.
Brooke said Ridge would lose his mind if he knew Rick was involved with Steffy. Rick said Taylor and Stephanie already knew, and that Stephanie had threatened to tell Ridge. He asked Brooke for her support. She refused. Brooke said she would not allow Rick to hurt Ridge anymore. She said she fought for him after the accident and hadn't let the family ship him off to Paris, but he had gone too far. Brooke said she absolutely forbade Rick from seeing Steffy Forrester again.
Taylor tried to convince Steffy that her relationship with Rick could never work. But Steffy declared her undying love for Rick. Taylor assured Steffy that Rick was merely using her, and reminded Steffy that Taylor knew Rick intimately. Steffy would not listen, so Taylor pulled out the big guns and produced her shrink, Dr. James Warwick. Steffy was none too thrilled to see him.
Taylor asked James to convince her daughter that Rick was using Steffy in the same way he used Phoebe and Taylor. Dr. Warwick pulled Steffy aside and warned her that the relationship she had entered into was not a healthy one. He said Steffy had just lost her twin sister, and falling in love with the man that was behind the wheel when her sister died didn't make sense. Dr. Warwick said if Steffy would take a step back and look at things clearly, she would realize Rick was using her.
Steffy defended Rick and said Rick was not using her, and their relationship was real. Dr. Warwick reminded her that her father would never accept Steffy being involved with the man who killed her sister. Dr. Warwick asked Steffy if she would really embark on a relationship with Rick, knowing in advance that Ridge might hate him for the rest of his life. Steffy said she refused to choose between her dad and Rick because she loved them both
Dr. Warwick asked Steffy how long she had been involved with Rick, and she agreed that it had been a little over a month. Dr. Warwick reminded Steffy that Ridge had been there for her every day of her life; he asked her to find the balance of those two loves on a scale. One man she barely knew, and the other man was the father who had been by her side her entire life. James reminded Steffy that Rick had been involved with her twin sister and her mom-just weeks before he got involved with Steffy. James said if Steffy chose to continue a relationship with Rick, she would lose Ridge and possibly more people in her family who would find their relationship unforgivable. Dr. Warwick pointed out that it would be Steffy and Rick against the world, and that would be too high a price to pay to be with a man she had only been dating for a month. James predicted Steffy would eventually resent Rick for all the things she had given up to be with him.

Seeing how much emotional pain Ridge was in, Stephanie refrained from revealing to her son that his daughter was in a relationship with his worst enemy. Fresh from her intervention with Dr. James Warwick, Steffy wasn't convinced that a relationship with Rick was wrong. Later, Stephanie decided to interject. Unable to listen to her grandmother's harsh words any longer, Steffy ran off. Brooke was still unsure if Rick's feelings for Steffy were genuine, or just another means of revenge towards Ridge. As Rick was explaining his and Steffy's love for each other to Brooke, Ridge overheard

Rick went to Ridge and Brooke's home to speak to Ridge about Rick and Steffy's relationship. Rick had decided that it was time Ridge learned about the relationship. Ridge immediately became worried and jumped to the conclusion that Rick had harmed Steffy when he brought up her name. Ridge questioned Rick as to what he had done to Steffy.
At Jackie M, Bridget worked late at her office. Jackie Marone, who also worked late at the office, remarked that she was happy to have Bridget at Jackie M. She wished Bridget good luck for a second chance at happiness in life and romance.
At Nick's house, he and Katie relaxed and had a glass of wine. Nick showed Katie the designs that Madam X had completed. Katie commented that she liked the designs. Nick told Katie that since they no longer would have secrets between them, he was going to be honest to her and reveal who the designer was. Nick told Katie that Bridget was Madam X. Katie told Nick that she was very surprised, especially since her niece, Bridget, had gone to medical school to be a doctor. Katie alluded to the fact that perhaps Bridget had an alternative motive for working as a clothing designer. Nick did not agree with Katie, but she remained suspicious of why Bridget was working at Jackie M. Nick asked Katie to promise to keep the designs stolen from Forrester Creations a secret, as Bridget knew nothing about them. Katie remarked that first the designs were stolen, and then Bridget showed up to work at Nick's company. Katie said that she was going to pay Bridget a visit to ask about her motives.
Katie arrived at Jackie M to speak with Bridget, but pretended she didn't know who Madam X was. Katie asked Madam X if her hair was a hairpiece. Bridget kept up the pretense of Madam X. Katie removed Bridget's sunglasses and unveiled "Madam X."
Katie reminded Bridget that she had attended medical school and become a doctor. She sarcastically asked Bridget if the X in Madam X meant ex-wife of Nick. Katie apologized for stealing Nick, then sympathized with Bridget. She denied that she had accepted the designer position at Jackie M to get closer to Nick. Bridget explained her motivation had been creativity, which made her feel alive. She commented that she could resume her career as a doctor at any time.
At home, Steffy confided to Thomas that she and Rick were dating and in love. Thomas flipped out with Steffy's news and harshly told her that Rick was only using her to anger Ridge. Thomas reminded Steffy that recently Rick had been in love with Taylor and planned to marry her. He also reminded her that shortly before Taylor, Rick was in love with Phoebe. Steffy did not want to accept what Thomas told her. Steffy tried to convince him that it was different and Rick's feelings were genuine.
Meanwhile, back at Ridge and Brooke's house, Rick calmly explained to Ridge that after Phoebe's death, he felt guilty about her death. He continued his explanation and said that he and Steffy became friends as they both grieved for Phoebe. Rick started to say that they were dating, but halted when Ridge jumped to the conclusion that there was more going on and they could be dating. Ridge demanded to know from Rick if there was more to their relationship. At that point, Rick admitted to Ridge that he and Steffy were dating and that they were in love.
Ridge suddenly became enraged. He snapped and reacted violently to the fact that Rick and Steffy were dating. He lost all control over his temper. He jumped at Rick. Brooke became hysterical and feared that Ridge would kill Rick. She begged for Ridge to stop. Ridge ignored Brooke's pleas. Rick managed to get out of the house and jump into his car. Steffy had hidden in the back seat of Rick's car and was horrified to learn that Ridge had learned about their relationship.
Ridge jumped in his car and Brooke got in the car with him. Ridge drove fast to catch up with Rick and Steffy. As Rick drove fast to escape Ridge, his driving became erratic. Brooke begged for Ridge to stop and pull off the road before another tragedy took place. Ridge refused to stop chasing Rick. He remarked that the worst had happened; Rick had his little girl.

Wednesday, February 11
Rick and Steffy were both fine after their car skidded off the road. Ridge hugged Steffy and then pounded on Rick's window and demanded he get out of the car. Brooke told Rick to go, and Rick drove off, to Ridge's great dismay.
Ridge said he didn't want to lose Steffy, and she repeatedly assured him that she was fine. She asked her dad if he wanted her to go to the hospital to get checked out. He said he wasn't worried about her physical health; he was worried about her relationship with Rick. Steffy explained how she and Rick bonded during their grief over Phoebe. Ridge said Rick was only interested in Steffy to get revenge on Ridge. Ridge was certain that Rick was using Steffy. Steffy stomped her foot and declared that what she and Rick felt was real. Ridge disagreed. He said Rick might be angry with Ridge because Rick blamed Ridge for losing Taylor, or maybe because of things that happened in Rick's childhood. Ridge assured Steffy that either way, Rick could not possibly love her.
Steffy went to Brooke and asked Brooke to intervene. Steffy stated that Brooke knew Rick better than anyone, and asked her if Rick truly loved Steffy. Brooke said she had no idea how Rick felt about anything anymore. Brooke was ashamed of Rick because he knew his relationship with Steffy would hurt Ridge, but he pursued her anyway. Ridge asked Steffy to end things with Rick. She said she didn't want to hurt Ridge. Steffy explained that she had been in Rick's car because she planned to end things with him. Ridge said that was the best decision for everyone.
Eric worked feverishly to try to complete the spring line in time for the upcoming fashion show. Donna asked Eric why he hadn't pressed charges or filed a lawsuit against Jackie M. Eric explained he didn't have the time or money to waste tangled up in a lawsuit for months. Donna didn't buy his explanation and asked what the real nature of his relationship was with Jackie Marone.
Eric said Donna had no reason to be concerned about his relationship with Jackie. Donna said she believed him, but thought there must be a reason he let it go without a fight. Donna asked Eric whom he was protecting. Eric didn't respond. Rick burst into the office and said he needed to talk to Eric and that it was an emergency. When Donna left, Rick told Eric that Ridge was going to kill him.
Rick mentioned to Eric that when Eric first got involved with Donna that the whole family disapproved. Eric nodded in agreement. Rick continued and reminded Eric that when the rest of the family was against Eric's marriage to Donna, Rick had stood up for him. Eric nodded in agreement again. Then Rick confessed that he had fallen in love with someone the family didn't approve of and admitted he had fallen in love with Steffy. Eric was stunned.
Eric screamed at Rick and said that wasn't possible, that it could not have happened. Rick said it had happened, and he was indeed in love with Steffy. Eric accused Rick of plotting the whole thing just to get Ridge's goat. Rick was hurt by the accusation.
Eric reminded Rick that he backed him up when Ridge wanted to ship him off to Paris. Eric said he protected Rick after he stole Eric's designs. Eric was infuriated that Rick had lied to him again. Eric said he didn't see how Ridge would be able to work with Rick again. Eric planned to set up a meeting to discuss Rick's future at Forrester, and said Rick had let him down for the last time.
Brooke called and warned Rick not to go home. She suggested he should go to a hotel, or anyplace where Ridge could not find him. Most of all, she said he should not go anywhere near Steffy.
Eric filled Donna in on Rick and Steffy's relationship. Donna reminded Eric that his family said the same thing when the two of them got involved. Donna thought that since Rick was so determined to see Steffy, even knowing how opposed his family was to their relationship, it meant he must truly love her. Donna suggested what Rick and Steffy had could be the real thing.
Brooke and Ridge talked and she said she just found out about Rick and Steffy and was as upset as he was. Brooke assured Ridge that Rick understood how volatile the situation was, and she was sure he would stay away from Steffy.
When Steffy retired for the night, she found Rick in her bedroom. He pleaded with her not to give up on their relationship. Rick said the family could yell at him all they wanted, but he would never give up on Steffy. Steffy said they had to end it, not just for Ridge's sake, but for Rick's too. Rick said he didn't want it to end and couldn't stay away from Steffy; they fell into a passionate kiss.

Thursday, February 12
The morning after the wild car chase between Rick and Ridge, Brooke asked Ridge if he was all right. Ridge told Brooke that he was anxious to get Rick out of the company and out of their lives. He reminded her that Eric had called an emergency family meeting at Forrester to deal with the Rick situation once and for all.
In Steffy's bedroom, Taylor and Steffy told Stephanie about the car chase. Stephanie was livid and blamed Rick for putting Steffy's life at risk. Steffy revealed that Rick hadn't risked her life at all, that he would never hurt her. She nearly added that she was already in his car when Rick took off to get away from Ridge.
At that moment, Ridge walked into the room and asked to speak with Steffy alone.
Stephanie and Taylor said that they knew what was going on. Ridge was ticked off at his mother for knowing about Steffy and Rick before he did and not telling him. Stephanie said she had been protecting Steffy. Ridge wanted to know why Dr. James Warrick learned about Steffy and Rick before he was?
Taylor defended her decision to bring in James, and said she had hoped that the intervention would be enough to end Rick and Steffy's affair before Ridge ever found out. Although not happy about their keeping him in the dark, Ridge felt confident the Forrester meeting would result in Rick getting his comeuppance. Stephanie believed that the best thing would be for Rick to go back to Paris, far away from Steffy.
After making sure that Ridge was gone, Rick showed up at his mother's house, hoping for her support. Rick said Ridge was responsible for the car chase. Brooke was shocked by Rick's assertion that it was Ridge who was out of control. She defended Ridge's actions and blamed Rick for putting the entire family in turmoil by going after Steffy. Rick insisted that he truly loved Steffy. Brooke wanted Rick to own up for the damage he had caused.
Rick refused to say that loving Steffy was wrong, and he accused Ridge of creating problems. Rick declared that Brooke always sided with Ridge against him. Brooke wondered why Rick questioned her love and loyalty to him every time she criticized him?
At Forrester, Eric told Donna that he was concerned about the family meeting. Donna thought a family meeting wasn't really necessary, but Eric felt it was. Rick burst in and asked his father to cancel the meeting. Before Eric could respond, the rest of the family appeared.
Thorne and Felicia wondered what was going on and why they were called away from business.
Ridge arrived with Stephanie and Brooke. He demanded that Rick explain himself to the family, certain that nobody would take his side, not even Brooke or Eric. Ridge said he wanted Rick to pack his bags and leave the company. He also repeated for the hundredth time that he wanted Rick to stay away from Steffy, his only remaining daughter.
Back at the house, Taylor begged off work so she could spend the day with Steffy. Being a supportive mother, but sounding like a therapist, Taylor pointed out to Steffy that Rick was a troubled young man. She said that if he really loved Steffy, he would leave her alone and respect the family's wishes. Steffy disagreed. She didn't believe that Rick was pretending to love her so he could get revenge on Ridge.
Steffy said that she was in love with Rick and that he loved her, too. Taylor tried to make Steffy understand that Rick was a liar, that he might even believe he loved Steffy, but that it wasn't real. The implication was that Rick was psychologically defective. Steffy said that she was sure Rick would never give up on her, no matter what. Taylor insisted that Rick was not the right man for Steffy, but someday Mr. Right would come along.
Back at Forrester, Stephanie blamed Rick for causing Phoebe's accident, reminding him that if he hadn't tried to kiss Steffy in the first place, Phoebe wouldn't have been so upset and wouldn't have gotten in the car with Rick. Thorne and Felicia agreed with Ridge and Stephanie that it was impossible for Rick to remain in the L.A. office.
In his defense, Donna said that Rick wasn't responsible for his feelings because one couldn't control whom one loved. Stephanie thought that was a ridiculous thing to say, but typical of a home wrecker like Donna.
At that point, Eric got in the middle of his wife and ex-wife. He announced that the purpose of the meeting was to decide if Rick could work at Forrester any longer. Ridge said that he had tried his best to keep the peace with Rick. All he had asked was that Rick promise to stay away from Steffy. Rick was the one who hadn't kept his word.
Eric looked at Rick and shook his head despondently. He blamed Rick for creating the lack of trust that existed with everyone in the family. He wasn't sure how Rick could continue with the company.
Ridge said that Rick was a divisive and destructive presence, and he would ruin the company if he stayed. Eric felt that Brooke was the one who was most affected by Rick's actions. He left it up to Brooke to decide Rick's fate. Brooke wondered what she was going to do.

Eric asked Brooke to make the final decision about whether Rick stayed or left the company. Brooke was very uncomfortable in that position. Eric's reasoning was that Brooke was the one who would be most impacted by the choice, so he wanted her to have a voice in making it. Stephanie, Thorne, Felicia, and Ridge were chomping at the bit and unhappy that Eric left the choice in Brooke's hands.
Eric expressed to Stephanie that he would like to work things out and allow Rick to stay on. Stephanie wondered why he left it up to Brooke if he had already made up his mind. Eric said since Ridge and Brooke would be the ones most impacted if Rick stayed, he felt it was only fair to let Brooke choose.
Meanwhile, the rest of the family was campaigning for Thorne to take over as president and were waiting like vultures for Rick to get canned so Thorne could move into Rick's office.
Steffy confided her woes to Bridget and asked for Bridget's advice regarding Steffy's situation with Rick. Bridget said she understood what it was like to fall in love with the wrong man. She had fallen for both Deacon and Nick, and both relationships ended badly. Bridget said the good thing for Steffy was that she and Rick were at the beginning of their relationship and hadn't gotten too far in to stop it. Steffy said it certainly didn't feel that way to her.
Steffy said that Bridget knew Rick better than anyone, and she wanted to know if Bridget thought Rick had genuine feelings for Steffy. The entire family cautioned Steffy about Rick and accused him of using her to get revenge on Ridge. Bridget said she didn't believe that; she knew her brother and believed Rick really cared deeply for Steffy.
Steffy said she hoped that Rick did not lose his job because of her. Bridget reminded Steffy that they had already discussed that possibility. Steffy knew that it could happen to Rick, Bridget said, but they just kept going. Steffy said she had tried to stay away from Rick, but they were unable to keep their distance from one another.
Bridget said Steffy was young and would find another guy, just like Bridget found life after Deacon and Nick. Bridget said it was just not worth the pain it would cause Ridge if Steffy stayed with Rick.
Brooke talked to Rick heart to heart. Rick pleaded with his mother and said all he had wanted was for Eric, Brooke, and himself, their own little family, to work together. It was very important to him, he said, because it was the only way he could have his family reunited. Brooke said if that was really so important to him, he would not have done the one thing he was asked not to do. He got involved with Steffy after Ridge implored him to stay away from Ridge's family, and Brooke could not ignore that. Rick said Ridge had taken away every good thing from his life and that whenever he was happy, he could count on Ridge to ruin it for him. But he assured Brooke that his relationship with Steffy had nothing to do with that.
Brooke said that did not matter. Ridge's daughter was killed and Rick was involved in her death; there was no getting around that. Brooke said Rick did not respect Ridge's wishes, and also did not respect her. Brooke reminded Rick that she was his mother and he knew how much she loved Ridge, yet Rick willingly made choices that he knew would cause trouble in Brooke's marriage.
Brooke said she hated to be in the position to seal Rick's fate, but she was in that position and she had to consider his past behavior. She reminded him of all the times she backed him in the past, only to discover he was lying and manipulating her. She said this time she had to cut him loose. Rick begged her not to say it, but she continued - Brooke told Rick he was no longer an employee of Forrester Creations.
Ridge heard her decision and started to taunt Rick. He said Rick heard Brooke's choice, and Ridge wanted Rick out of the building within the hour. Ridge said Rick had done so many awful things that even his own mother had turned against him. Ridge warned Rick, in no uncertain terms, to stay away from Steffy. Rick said Ridge could make Steffy stay away from him physically, but that Steffy was in love with Rick, and there was nothing Ridge could do to pry Rick out of her heart.
The family circled around Brooke and comforted her. Even Stephanie offered her support and said she realized it was hard for Brooke to fire her own son. Ridge thanked Brooke for taking his side and doing what needed to be done.
Rick left Forrester Creations and made a beeline to see Steffy. She briefly protested and said he shouldn't be there, but stayed to hear him out anyway. Rick informed her that he had lost his job. Steffy said he knew that might happen. He said he didn't care about the job or the company anymore. He just didn't want to lose Steffy. Steffy said she didn't want to lose Rick, either, but didn't see any way around it. Rick asked Steffy to run away with him. He said she would make him the happiest man on Earth if she would marry him.

Monday, February 16
Brooke said Ridge had no idea how difficult it was for her to let Rick go. Ridge thanked her for making the difficult choice she made and doing what was best for Forrester Creations. Brooke said she loved her son and felt she had turned her back on him, but Rick had left her no choice.
Ridge said it could be the kick in the butt Rick needed to get his life back on track. Brooke said Rick would never look at her the same again. Ridge said in time Rick would appreciate her tough love and that she cared enough about him to bust him on his reckless behavior. Brooke sighed and said she hoped Ridge was right. Ridge hinted that he might welcome Rick back into the fold one day; he just wanted Rick to grow up and take time to realize what pain he had caused their family with his shenanigans. Ridge said he hoped Rick had the good sense to stay away from him and especially from Steffy.
Steffy asked Rick if his proposal was serious, and he assured her it was the real deal. He wanted to spend his life with her and asked her again to become his wife.
Steffy asked if he wanted to elope to Vegas. He said sure, that would be fine. Steffy said she had always dreamed of Hawaii, and Rick said that was an even better idea.
Steffy said she wished it were as simple as dreaming. Rick said it was. He said they loved one another and that was all they needed to make it work. Rick said he still had a lot of contacts in Paris and they could move there. He said he would sell Eiffel Tower key chains to tourists. Steffy mentioned a lot of her friends lived in London. Rick said that was good, too-- he could sell Big Ben key chains.
Steffy said it all sounded wonderful, but she wasn't sure they should do it. Steffy said if they married, it would hurt a lot of people, and that it was very selfish of them. Rick said that was what people did when they were in love; they made choices only for one another. Steffy asked Rick if that was really what it was about. She wondered if he was really in love with her, or if marrying her was merely another act of revenge on her dad.
Rick was visibly stung by her words. He asked her if she thought he had made up his feelings for her. Steffy said no, but she had to question the motivations he might have subconsciously. Rick asked her who was feeding her the psychobabble. Steffy said her whole family questioned his motives. She pointed out that just months before, Rick had proposed to Taylor and blamed Ridge when that relationship didn't work out, so it would stand to reason he would want to get even with Ridge. She asked Rick point-blank if he was using her.
Rick said he realized their relationship didn't start up with roses and love letters. He admitted at first he just wanted to date her to get under Ridge's skin. He explained when he was with her mother, he had tried to be Taylor's savior, but what he felt for Steffy outweighed anything he had ever felt for anyone. He assured her he was not faking his feelings and then went in for a long deep kiss.
Steffy said that Rick proposed to her right after her dad kicked him out of the company, and that he stole Eric's designs supposedly for her, too. She said Rick didn't think before he did things, he made spontaneous grand gestures that hadn't been thought out. Steffy said she believed they were meant to be together, but it wasn't only her parents that had kept them apart. She said Rick's recklessness played a key, too. Steffy stated that she could not live a life where she had to wake up every morning afraid of what crazy, reckless thing Rick would do next in the name of love.
Rick said Steffy was absolutely right. He had done everything wrong and he would not do that anymore. He vowed that he would live his life in such a way that she would see him differently. He said he would do everything right from that point on and would become the man she wanted him to be. Rick set out to prove to Steffy he could be the man she hoped he would be.
On the way out, Rick stopped by to visit Eric. Rick apologized to Eric for the trouble he had caused and thanked Eric for all his help. Rick expressed sorrow at the way things had ended. Eric assured Rick that it was not the end. Eric said he believed Rick would be back working with him in the future, and he implored Rick to seek the help he needed. Rick said he intended to get help and he would not expect his parents to solve his problems again.
Rick said he was sorry he had disappointed Eric. Eric said he had been hurt by Rick's actions, but he was not disappointed in him. Eric loved his son and always would. Ridge and Brooke walked in and Rick apologized to Brooke, too. She asked Rick to think long and hard about the reasons she was forced to fire her own son from the family company. Rick said he had lost all self-respect and was ashamed of his behavior. He said he was going to work on regaining his self-respect and then he would work hard to earn back the respect of their family, too.
After Rick left, Ridge said he thought Rick was up to something. Eric and Brooke assured Ridge that their son was sincere and wanted to change, but Ridge remained unconvinced.
Rick tracked Steffy down on the roof and asked her to wait for him. He said he believed they could be together if he turned his life around. He said he would be back for her and asked her to promise to wait.

Tuesday, February 17
At a military recruitment headquarters, Rick enlisted into the US Army. Meanwhile at the Forrester Creations headquarters, Eric and Brook discussed Rick's recent actions. He admitted that, even tough Rick had betrayed both him and Forrester Creations, Eric still loved his son.
Shortly afterwards, Rick appeared at Eric's office to announce his military enrollment to his parents. He told Eric and Brooke that he had joined the US Army and would be leaving for boot camp in the near future. Brooke reacted in shock, while Eric clearly showed complete surprise. Rick explained that he wanted the Army to straighten him out and make him a man that would make his parents proud. Brooke worried that he could be killed if he were deployed to a war zone. Once Rick left, Brooke felt responsible that Rick enlisted in the Army. She told Eric if she had not asked him to leave Forrester Creations, he would have not gone to the military.
In the mail room, Steffy daydreamed about Rick. She recalled when Rick had said that he loved her. Steffy began to cry. Ridge tried to comfort Steffy. He explained to her that letting go of somebody was difficult even if the person wasn't right for you. Ridge asked his daughter if she realized that she could never trust Rick again. Steffy remarked that she thought it was possible that Rick's exit from Forrester Creations might have been a wake-up call for him. Ridge commented that Rick had told everyone in the family that he was trying to change. Ridge remarked that he did not believe that Rick was sincere, and that what Rick had told the family was just an act.
After Ridge left, Marcus approached Steffy. He reflected that their relationship was never the same after Rick sent him to Paris. Marcus asked if Steffy were involved with someone else and if that someone was Rick. Steffy didn't acknowledge it was Rick, but commented that she could not be involved with a man who was trouble for her family. She remarked that her family was already going through too much pain with the loss of Phoebe.
At the Jackie M. Boutique offices, Bridget revealed to Nick that she wanted to take off her Madam X disguise. However, she feared her family would find out that she worked for the competition. Nick questioned her as to whether Katie had a problem with Bridget and he working together at Jackie M. Bridget pointed out they did not actually work together. She teased Nick by saying if he wanted to wear a pair of sunglasses and become a clothing designer, they would work together closely. Bridget was playful and mysterious at the same time. Nick remarked that he really liked her when she behaved in that manner. He said that "he wondered," and then Bridget finished his sentence by saying he wondered why he married her twice. Bridget facetiously commented that they both got what they deserved. She got a new career as a fashion designer and he got a marriage to Katie. Nick said he was not sure if Bridget meant the remark in a nice way or not, Bridget proclaimed that she was always nice, and she wished her ex-husband only the best.
At home, Katie discussed the fact that Nick was spending much more time at work. Jackie said something that made Katie believe Nick was at the office more because of Bridget's presence there. Their conversation suddenly turned hostile. Jackie disclosed that she considered her son a prince and that she did not like what Katie had done to his life.
Jackie voiced her distaste of Katie's behavior to Katie who was shocked to hear it from Jackie. She commented to Katie that Bridget and Nick were deliriously in love. However, Katie slept with Nick while he was engaged to Bridget. Jackie portrayed Katie as the Black Widower and stated the reasons why she was the Black Widower. She explained that first Storm killed himself after he had shot Katie by accident. Next Katie took her brother's heart. She stepped into Bridget's home and bed and, while she recuperated, she slept with Nick. Jackie called Katie a disgrace to her brother's memory, her family, and her niece, Bridget. Jackie declared war on Katie. She told Katie that it was her mission to reunite Bridget and Nick. Jackie repeated that Katie was a disgrace and had repaid her niece, who saved her life after the heart transplant, by stealing her husband.
Nick arrived home, heard the argument, and intervened

Nick walked in to find Jackie verbally attacking Katie. Nick asked his mother not to speak to Katie that way. Jackie said she had kept her mouth shut for months because of the baby, but she could not hold it in any longer-Katie was the most pathetic woman she had ever met.
Jackie said Nick only planned to marry Katie because he felt guilty for the way he hurt Bridget, Jackie assured him that marrying Katie would not assuage his guilt. Jackie said Nick had a kind impulse and went to the island to help a dying woman, but was met with seduction and manipulation from Katie. Katie was shocked by Jackie's accusations.
Nick proclaimed that he had not been seduced. Jackie said Katie had tempted Nick with the one thing he could not resist: becoming a hero and fulfilling a dying woman's last wish. Nick tossed Jackie her coat and kicked her out of his house. Jackie said she had said what she had come to say and only hoped that Nick truly heard her. After Jackie left, Nick reassured Katie that he was completely committed to her in spite of his mother's blustering.
At the beach house, Rick explained to Steffy why he had to enlist in the Army. Joining the military was Rick's way to prove to Steffy and the family that he had become a man worthy of her love. Steffy wisely noted that "going to war is scary." And that people in wars had guns and bombs. Rock assured Steffy he could handle all that, but he could not handle losing her. Steffy said she was selfish and did not want Rick to go. Rick said it was a done deal; he had already signed the papers at the recruiter's office. Rick assured her it was the best thing for them, and promised her he would not die.
Rick said it was the first big step to change Ridge's mind about him. Steffy said it was more akin to jumping off a cliff. Rick said he saw no other way to change her father's mind. Rick said it was the only way the two of them could have a future together.
Rick observed that it took a man of great character to make a commitment like that to his country, and he wanted to be that sort of man. He told Steffy he had already spoken to his parents and related that his mom had tried to talk him out of it, but his dad understood. Rick said he would be gone for a few years, and needed to know that Steffy would wait for him while he was away. Rick knew there would be a lot of men sniffing around Steffy while he was away, but said he needed to know she would wait. He needed the assurance that he would come home to find Steffy waiting for him.
Rick said he needed a picture of Steffy he could hold onto while he was away. He asked her to make love to him so he could prove to her how much he loved her before he left for induction. The two embraced and fell on the couch together tangled up and kissing.
Clarke observed Madame X's designs. He said she had not made the choices he would have made, but that her designs were interesting. She asked him for advice. Clark said hell must have frozen over if a Forrester had asked him for advice. Clarke said that Bridget could design paisley muumuus and Jackie would still have hired her. He implied there were ulterior motives lurking in Jackie's mind.
Bridget pointed out that Jackie hired "Madame X" before she knew it was Bridget. Bridget said that she and Nick were over and all she wanted was to make a new life for herself. Clarke sarcastically noted that her new life happened to be in the office where her old life spent most of his days. Bridget said she was passionate about design. Clarke countered that design was not the only thing that stirred Bridget's passions.
Jackie returned to the office and asked Bridget if she would take Nick back if she had the chance. Bridget said she thought she had made it clear to Jackie she was there to design and not for Nick. Jackie implored Bridget to use her influence to save Nick from Katie. Jackie believed Nick would take a way out if he had one. Bridget said if Jackie wanted her to continue working there, she had to stop talking that way.
Katie told Nick she thought they should forego a large wedding, after all, and keep it small, since so many family members had conflicts with their relationship. Nick asked her if she really meant that. Katie said yes. Nick said they already had a license and proposed they get married immediately. Katie agreed.
A caterer called the Jackie M offices to confirm a change in the order. Jackie took the call and was stunned to discover Nick planned to get married right away. Jackie begged Bridget to go with her to stop the wedding before Nick made a horrible mistake.

At Brooke's, she worried that Rick would be sent into combat, but Ridge scoffed. He noted that the military would never accept anyone with one kidney. Ridge added that he was certain Rick knew that. Brooke couldn't believe that Ridge wouldn't give Rick the benefit of the doubt. She said Rick was trying to be a better person. Ridge disagreed and said it was clear that he wanted sympathy, and would do anything to get it. Ridge worried that Rick was specifically hoping for sympathy from Steffy, and Ridge assured Brooke that he would intervene to ensure that didn't happen. Brooke worried about her son and wanted Ridge's support, but Ridge said he hoped Rick was sent as far away from Steffy as was possible.
At the Army Recruiting Office, Rick conjectured that he would be taking a transport plane to basic training, but discovered he was taking a commercial plane. Rick started to whine, but then he marveled that he was going to South Carolina on the East Coast. He said that might be a good thing. Then, he wondered to himself if he was really ready for combat. Rick met with the doctor about his physical, and the doctor asked about the recent fall and paralysis. Rick said he had fallen over backwards onto his head. He added that he had recovered. The doctor called Rick's doctor and returned to tell Rick that he could not be admitted into the armed services after a fall and paralysis. Rick sheepishly said he was disappointed, but he clearly looked relieved as he left the office.
In the shipping office at Forrester, Marcus visited with Steffy and asked her what was going on with her and Rick. He sternly asked if she had slept with him, and Steffy adamantly denied it. Steffy said that Rick had joined the Army. Marcus left, and Rick arrived. He told Steffy that he was rejected from the Army. Rick told her they could still be together, but they needed to leave Los Angeles. Steffy refused to hurt her dad. Rick again pressured her to be with him and make love with him. Steffy laughed that he wouldn't give up. Rick agreed. Steffy said Rick and Ridge would have to make peace in order for her to have a relationship with him. Rick disagreed, and he said he would have Steffy with or without Ridge's approval. They embraced.
At Jackie M, Bridget wore her Madame X disguise as Jackie encouraged her to help in breaking up Nick and Katie's wedding. Bridget said she couldn't do that, but Jackie persisted and said that Katie was a conniver who destroyed Bridget's marriage. Jackie refused to allow Katie to get her claws on Nick and Jack through marriage. Bridget said Nick wasn't blameless in her marriage's breakup. He had slept with Katie. Jackie said it was probably more of a pity seduction, and she was stopping the wedding with or without Bridget.
At Nick's, Katie and Nick prepared for the minister to arrive. Nick gave Katie some flowers from the garden. Beth arrived and told Katie how beautiful she was. Katie wore a strapless white gown and told her mom that Nick made her very happy. Beth agreed that she could tell that Nick made Katie happy. Beth wondered where the guests were, and Katie shared that Beth was the only guest. They wanted a small, intimate wedding. Beth said she understood, since Jackie didn't care for Katie. Minutes later, the minister arrived with Bridget-without her Madame X disguise-and Jackie. Katie asked what they were doing there, and Jackie insisted that she would not allow Nick to marry Katie no matter what she had to do.
At Forrester, Ridge went to visit Steffy and caught her in an embrace with Rick. He was livid.

Friday, February 20
Jackie insinuated herself into the middle of Nick and Katie's wedding and said she would not allow her son to marry Katie. Jackie pointed out that Nick was in love with Bridget when he went to the island with Katie, and that he was in love with Bridget when he returned. Jackie proclaimed that the only reason Nick ever slept with Katie was because he pitied a dying woman and wanted to give Katie her final wish.
Katie said Nick was about to marry her because of genuine feelings the two of them had developed for one another. Katie stated that she did not feel the need to apologize to Jackie for her feelings or choices. Jackie told Nick that she knew he had developed feelings for Katie, but the feelings began with lies and deception. Katie became indignant and asked Jackie how she would dare say such a thing. Bridget jumped in and asked Katie how she dared to do what she had done. Bridget said she trusted Katie and took Katie into her home and Katie betrayed her.
Katie said the two of them had talked about it many times, and she thought it was resolved. Bridget said she had merely pushed her feelings to the side, and as she watched Nick prepare to marry Katie, she realized she couldn't push those feelings down anymore. Bridget said Katie just kept pushing her buttons. Nick suggested that the ladies take their buttons to neutral corners.
Nick chewed Jackie out and said she was trying to control and manipulate him. Jackie told the pastor to leave because there would not be a wedding. Nick countered and said there would be a wedding and, when Katie came back downstairs, he would expect Jackie to give Katie a warm reception.
When Katie came back, both Jackie and Bridget offered half-hearted apologies. Katie told them if their intention was to ruin her wedding day, they had succeeded. Katie said it was not the day she envisioned for her and Nick. She asked to speak to Nick privately, and Bridget, Jackie, Beth, and the minister left.
Katie admitted that the concerns Bridget and Jackie raised were true. She realized that she had destroyed Nick's marriage to Bridget and she didn't know what to do about it. Katie ran up the stairs crying while Nick remained below with a confused expression on his face.
Ridge looked on while Rick and Steffy embraced. He used self-control and didn't instantly barge in and punch Rick, but instead lingered outside the door to try to determine what was going on. When Ridge heard Rick tell Steffy that he had been rejected by the military for health reasons, Ridge scoffed - it happened just as he predicted it would. Ridge started talking to himself and said he couldn't believe Steffy was falling for Rick's lines.
Steffy asked Rick to please leave, it was harder for her when he was so close, she explained. Rick said the only one standing in their way was Ridge, but Steffy countered that all the bad things Ridge predicted had a way of coming true. Steffy mentioned that when she was in Rick's car, they almost crashed. Rick pointed out to her that they almost crashed because Ridge was chasing them to try to kill Rick. Steffy begged Rick to leave and he finally did. When Ridge saw Rick leave, he followed Rick.
Rick went up the back stairs at Forrester to the roof, and Ridge tailed him all the way to the top. Ridge confronted Rick and reminded Rick that he had said to stay away from Steffy. Rick explained that he had to tell her what was going on. Ridge accused Rick of faking the whole enlistment plan. Ridge said Rick must have known going in that he would not be accepted. Rick said he didn't; he seriously intended to serve his country, but once again, Ridge ruined things for him.
Brooke and Steffy talked, and when Ridge didn't come back to the office, they put two and two together and realized he must have seen Rick talking to Steffy. Brooke and Steffy set out to find Ridge and Rick, fearing the worst.
Ridge said he had warned Rick 50 times to stay away from his daughter, but Rick never listened. Ridge asked if he had to rip Rick's head off to make him keep his distance from Steffy. He slammed his palm into Rick's chest as Rick tried to exit. Rick asked Ridge to take his hand off of him, but Ridge hit him again.
Ridge blamed Rick for Phoebe's death again, and Rick said he had tried to stay away from Phoebe and had not meant to hurt her. Ridge laughed in disbelief. Rick said Ridge never gave him the benefit of the doubt and never believed a word Rick said.
Rick said if Ridge were out of the picture, his Dad would respect Rick, Brooke would be happy, and Rick and Steffy could be together. Then Rick taunted Ridge and said he would be with Steffy one day and that Ridge could count on it. Ridge became enraged and rushed at Rick and tried to knock him over the roof. But Rick dodged and Ridge went over the ledge instead. Rick caught Ridge by the arms and had Ridge's life firmly in his hands. Ridge asked Rick to pull him back up, but Rick just glared at him as Ridge dangled over the edge.

Ridge's life was in Rick's hands, literally, as Ridge dangled over the side of the Forrester building. Ridge pleaded with Rick to pull him back up. With all his might, Rick struggled to pull Ridge back up over the ledge. Once Ridge was pulled to safety, Rick told Ridge that in spite of their differences, he would never let Ridge die. Ridge looked surprised to hear that.
Taylor went to visit Stephanie and filled her in on the news that Rick had enlisted in the military. Taylor had a hard time believing that the Rick she knew was cut out for the Army. Stephanie guessed that Rick was just working an angle to try to worm his way back into the good graces of the family. Stephanie added the Eric and Brooke actually believed their son did it to regain his integrity. Taylor said she didn't think that was possible. Stephanie agreed with Taylor, but realized Rick's parents were prone to believe in him no matter what.
Taylor worried that Rick would continue to pursue Steffy, and that Steffy was in over her head with Rick. Taylor and Stephanie discussed Ridge's reaction to the ongoing situation and were worried about what he would do if Rick didn't back off. Taylor said she knew that Rick and Brooke could not be counted on to behave with self-restraint, so Taylor and Stephanie tried to come up with a solution. Stephanie noticed that Taylor still had tender feelings for Ridge. She mentioned that sine Ridge and Brooke were on opposite sides of the battle over Rick and Steffy, that perhaps their marriage would not survive it. Taylor said Ridge and Steffy were her only concerns.
Taylor left, and Ridge arrived to see Stephanie looking extremely bedraggled. Stephanie asked what happened to him. Ridge was embarrassed and reluctant to answer, but Stephanie kept pushing for an answer. She asked Ridge point-blank if Rick had tried to push him off the roof. Ridge hung his head and said no, that it was his "own damned fault."
Ridge confessed to Stephanie that Rick had saved his life. Ridge said he realized Rick did not intend to kill Phoebe, just like Rick did not intend for Ridge to fall off the roof earlier in the day. Ridge said he and Phoebe were merely in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Brooke had witnessed the incident from the opposite side of the building and ran to Rick. She said she saw him pull Ridge up and asked Rick what happened. Rick explained and Brooke declared that Rick was a hero who saved Ridge's life, and she wanted the whole family to know. Rick implored Brooke to keep quiet. He said he didn't want anyone to think he had taken advantage of the situation. He insisted he was not a hero; he just did what anyone else would have done. Brooke disagreed and wanted to proclaim her son's heroism to the world, but Rick dissuaded her.
Rick said the only people who needed to know about it were him and Ridge-- and perhaps it would let Ridge see him in a new light and forgive him for his sins of the past. Brooke held him close with pride beaming from her eyes. Rick said the family thought he was a con artist and he didn't want to add to that with the perception that he would use a near tragedy to his advantage. Brooke said Ridge would have died if Rick hadn't pulled him back up, and Rick said that was true, but he wanted her to let it go. Rick said his goal was to win back the respect of the entire family.
Brooke went to Ridge and said she knew what had happened. She explained that Rick didn't want anyone to know about his heroic actions. Ridge scoffed and said Rick sure knew how to work his mother. Ridge accused Rick of secretly wanting Brooke to tell everyone, even though Rick told her not to tell. Brooke looked hurt and asked if Ridge was even grateful to her son for saving Ridge's life. Ridge said if Rick had not been hitting on Steffy he would not have been on the roof in the first place and wouldn't have needed saving. Brooke's eyes welled up with tears when she realized Rick's dream of finding peace with Ridge was still a long way off.
Ridge said Rick was a master manipulator and he had only enlisted because he knew he would be rejected. Brooke said she didn't believe that, but even if he had done that, it only proved he really loved Steffy and would do anything for her. Ridge said Rick had been with Ashley, Phoebe, Taylor, and Steffy in a matter of months and could not have possibly loved all those women. Brooke asked Ridge to take it easy and remember that Rick was her son. Ridge reminded Brooke that he had been through some tragedies lately and that her son Rick was at the center of all of them, and Ridge could not forget.
Brooke said Rick wanted acceptance more than anything. She asked Ridge to take into account that Rick saved his life and to let Rick back in the company, to make Rick feel like part of the family. Brooke believed if Rick could get acceptance from the family, everything would be okay. Brooke asked Ridge to do it for her. She asked Ridge to give Rick a job at Forrester.
Stephanie tracked Rick down in the shipping and receiving area and asked if he was waiting for Steffy so he could toot his own horn about his heroic deed. Rick said no, he was headed home. Stephanie taunted him, and Rick asked if she wasn't just a little grateful that he saved her son Ridge's life. She said Ridge would not have needed saving if Rick had stayed away from Steffy. Rick said Stephanie had better hope he never had to decide whether or not to save her life. Stephanie said she would rather die than have Rick save her life, so if he ever had the choice, he should let her die.
She asked Rick when he shipped out, and he explained that he had been rejected for medical reasons. Stephanie laughed hysterically and said she knew it had all been a ploy for him to look good in front of Steffy. Rick shook his head in disgust and left Stephanie to bluster all alone.

At Ridge's office in the Forrester Creations Headquarters, Brooke and Ridge discussed Rick's employment status at the company. Ridge told Brooke that Rick would be terminated from the company. She emphasized to Ridge that Rick had just saved his life on the roof. Brooke questioned whether that meant anything to Ridge and if he were grateful that Rick saved his life. Brooke begged Ridge to allow Rick to remain with Forrester Creations. Ridge indicated that he was not going to allow Rick to stay with the company.
Brooke made a heartfelt plea that if Ridge did not want to keep Rick at the company for his sake, then she begged for him to do so for her. Ridge reminded Brooke that he still could not get past the fact that Phoebe was dead because she was in the car with Rick. He also commented that he could not believe that Rick's saving Ridge's life made any difference in him. Brooke once again pleaded with Ridge to give Rick another chance. Ridge asked Brooke to stop begging him to allow Rick to remain at Forrester Creations, because he had no intention of changing his mind-at that moment or ever.
In Steffy's office, Rick told Steffy that he might have made some headway with convincing Ridge that he was not a monster and he would not harm Ridge's daughter. Rick was hopeful that there was a chance that he just might be able to remain with Forrester Creations. Rick also expressed hope that the two of them could actually be together without any objection from their families.
Later, Steffy hugged her father. She said she was grateful that he had not been killed on the roof. Steffy explained to her father that prior to his following Rick to the roof, he had seen Rick with her; however, Rick had spoken to her only to tell her that he had been rejected from the Army. Ridge accused Rick of being dishonest and said that Rick knew he wouldn't be accepted into the military with his injury. Ridge told his daughter that he couldn't believe that she could love someone as arrogant as Rick and swore it wasn't love. He told her to stay away from Rick.
As Brooke cried in Ridge's office, Rick walked in and noticed that she was crying. She told Rick that she was proud of him for having saved Ridge on the roof. Rick expressed that because he saved Ridge's life, it should have convinced Ridge that Rick was not a bad person and was worthy of his position at Forrester Creations. Brooke relayed that Ridge continued to be stubborn and had not changed his mind about Rick, despite Rick saving Ridge's life.
Rick said he was frustrated with Ridge's stubbornness to accept him as a person and at Forrester Creations. He encouraged Brooke to support him in his fight to remain at Forrester Creations. Rick reiterated that Ridge would be dead if Rick had not rescued him from falling off the roof. He explained that it was a very good reason to support him to remain at Forrester Creations. Rick also asked that Brooke support his relationship with Steffy.
Brooke's response to Rick request for help was that she could not support him without considering Ridge's feelings. Rick figured aloud that either he or Ridge's daughter would remain at Forrester Creations. Rick figured it was a no-brainer that Ridge's daughter would be the one to stay. Rick said he understood that it would be Steffy. While he mentioned Steffy, Brooke had an idea. Brooke told Rick that she needed to speak to someone.
While Rick was still in the building, he recalled saving Ridge's life and admitted to himself that he would have not have allowed Ridge to die. Rick's thoughts to himself were that Forrester Creations wasn't big enough for both him and Ridge. Rick saw Ridge and expressed his disappointment over Ridge's stubbornness and hatred of him. Rick commented that Ridge was unbelievable because there was no winning with him, no matter what-even after he had saved Ridge's life.
Ridge was hostile to Rick, as usual, and said he appreciated that Rick saved him, but that in itself was not going to keep Rick at Forrester Creations. Rick campaigned for himself and remarked that other people didn't think the way he did. Ridge knew that Rick meant his mother, Brooke. Ridge commented that he understood that Rick's mother wanted Rick to remain at the company. The conversation remained hostile, and Ridge accused Rick of using Ridge's daughter, Steffy, to get back at him. Rick told Ridge that it was a lie and that he loved Steffy. Ridge remarked that as long as Steffy worked at Forrester Creations, Rick would not work there, because Ridge didn't want Rick any where near his daughter.
Later, Steffy appealed to Brooke to help convince Ridge not to fire Rick from the company. Steffy vented her frustration to Brooke that she didn't understand how it didn't make a difference with Ridge that Rick saved his life. Brooke asked her how deep her feelings for Rick were. Steffy replied that she felt something with Rick that she had never felt with any other man. Brooke hypothesized with Steffy as to what it would mean to her if there were ways to keep Rick at Forrester Creations. Steffy said that she would be willing to do anything to make that happen.
Brooke then proposed a possible solution to Steffy. She asked what would happen if Steffy left Forrester Creations instead of Rick. Brooke suggested that Steffy take a temporary leave of absence until things calmed down with Ridge. Brooke expressed concerns to Steffy that if Rick did leave the company, he would become even more lost. Brooke explained that Steffy was the last hope of Rick staying at the family business. She asked Steffy if she would be willing to make a sacrifice for Rick and leave the company so he could stay.

Thomas asked Taylor how she had ever gotten got involved with a creep like Rick. Taylor explained that Rick was very supportive of her during a dark period in her life. Taylor said he had changed since then. Thomas doubted that Rick had changed at all. Thomas believed that Rick used and manipulated Taylor in the same way he was using and manipulating Steffy. Thomas asked his mom for tips on how they could get Steffy out from under Rick's spell to see the truth about him.
Thomas said Steffy promised him that she would break up with Rick before Ridge found out. Taylor told Thomas it had been too late; by the time Steffy tried to end things with Rick, Ridge had already found out. Thomas said he would not be able to rest until Steffy ended things with Rick. He said he felt their family was in danger. Thomas promised Taylor that he would do anything to protect his sister.
Brooke pleaded with Steffy to quit her job at Forrester Creations in order for Rick to keep his job. Steffy asked if Brooke had spoken to Ridge about it. Brooke said Ridge needed to hear it from Steffy.
Steffy said it could backfire and make Ridge even angrier. Brooke promised Steffy that Ridge would not be mad at her. Steffy agreed to the plan. She said if it took her quitting her job to save Rick's job, she was more than happy to make that sacrifice. She asked Brooke to wish her luck and went off to find Ridge.
Eric wrestled with the upcoming press conference and felt pangs of guilt about telling his customers and the press that he had fired his own son. Katie offered to submit a written press release, but Eric insisted on meeting with the press as planned.
Eric expressed disappointment over the situation and told Katie he had dreamed of working side by side with Rick since the day Rick was born, but Rick's own actions made that impossible. Eric lamented that if Rick had only left Steffy alone, they could all still be working together. Katie cautioned Eric that he could not let the press know he had fired Rick because of Rick's animosity towards Ridge.
Rick was appalled that in spite of the fact that he saved Ridge's life, Ridge still intended to have Rick fired. Rick said Ridge should be grateful that Rick had feelings for Steffy, because that was the only reason he saved Ridge's life. Rick said he could have focused on how much better his life would be without Ridge, but instead he focused on how devastated Steffy would be if her father died. That was the reason he pulled Ridge back over the ledge. Ridge remained unmoved and said he wanted Rick to get out of the office and out of his life for good.
Thorne suited up and got ready to resume the presidency of Forrester at the press conference. Katie noted that Thorne had waited a long time to take over again. Katie suggested it could just as easily have been Thorne who lost his job, since he was the one who hired models to impersonate Donna and Owen to trick his dad. Thorne admitted that had not been his finest hour and added he was thankful that Eric was willing to give him a second chance.
Brooke walked in on their discussion and told Thorne he should not count Rick out just yet. Thorne said it was a done deal and Rick would have to earn his second chance. Brooke said Rick had earned his second chance when he saved Ridge's life. Thorne and Katie looked puzzled by her words.
Brooke explained that Ridge fell off the roof and Rick saved his life. Brooke believed Ridge would see Rick in a new light after his heroic act. Thorne rolled his eyes and said it didn't seem to have changed anything because the press conference had not been cancelled. Brooke said there was still time. Thorne became angry and said that it was his turn to be president, and he would not let anyone take that away from him.
Eric went to Rick's office and said it was time for the press conference. Rick said Eric had come to lead him to the gallows. Eric said Rick had not left him any choice. Rick pointed out that the only thing he had done was upset the great and mighty Ridge. Rick said he intended to continue pursuing Steffy, and reminded Eric he had nothing left to lose.
Eric said Rick was a talented man who had a brilliant career ahead of him. Rick asked if he should take his talent to Jackie M. Eric said of course not; Rick should just take a couple of years off and let things cool down and then come back to Forrester. Rick said he did not intend to put his career on hold just to placate Ridge. Rick said Ridge would never let him come back to work at Forrester if Steffy still worked there, no matter how much time passed. Rick surmised that the only reason Ridge wanted Rick fired was to keep him away from Steffy.
Eric said there were many ways that a man could change his life besides enlisting in the military. Rick asked if saving a man's life would be one of these ways. Eric said of course. It was clear Eric didn't know that Rick had saved Ridge's life. Rick said he wasn't surprised that Ridge hadn't told him. Rick explained that Ridge fell off the roof of the building and that Rick saved his life. Rick said he saved the life of the man who was trying to ruin his. Rick said he should have "chump" stamped on his forehead.
Eric went to Thorne and Katie and asked if they could postpone the press conference. Eric said in light of what he had learned about Rick saving Ridge's life, he needed to rethink things.
Steffy caught up with Ridge and said when she first got home from Europe, it sounded like a good idea to work at the family company and learn the ropes, but it no longer seemed like a good fit. Ridge immediately realized that Steffy planned to quit in order to save Rick's job.
Ridge said it was a good plan, he could keep an eye on Rick, and Steffy hadn't found her niche at Forrester yet. Steffy was so pleased her dad agreed with her plan that she was beaming. But then he pulled the rug out from her joy and said there was only one problem with her plan-Ridge would not allow Steffy to sacrifice herself for Rick.
Steffy said Phoebe would not want the family to fight; she would want them to make peace and to move on. Ridge said Phoebe had no peace with Rick's relationship with Taylor or the fact that he kissed Steffy. Steffy reminded Ridge that Rick didn't mean to kill Phoebe; it was an accident. Rick said it still happened. Steffy made it clear to Ridge that she needed him to listen to what she was saying, or she would leave.
Brooke walked in and heard Steffy offer Ridge an ultimatum. Brooke said she hadn't meant for things to get ugly, and confessed to Ridge that she was the one who put Steffy up to quitting her job. Ridge was furious that Brooke went to Steffy behind his back.
Brooke said she had merely tried to find a solution that would be best for the whole family. She did not want to lose her son. Brooke said that when Rick saved Ridge's life, she saw that spark of good in him. Brooke didn't want to send him away, but wanted to keep her son close and surrounded by family to foster that good man she knew he could become. Brooke implored Rick to rethink his position. She said Steffy didn't have to quit and Rick didn't have to be fired. They could all agree to make peace and get along, if only Ridge were willing. Brooke asked Ridge to let Rick stay, and asked him to do it for her.

At Forrester Creations, everyone was abuzz about the big press conference. Felicia and Thorne anticipated that Thorne would be named the next president of Forrester Creations. Felicia noted that Rick had damaged the public image of Forrester, and she couldn't wait until he was gone. Thorne said he planned to make some changes, and Felicia planned to get out the champagne. Eric looked thoughtful while Katie told them all that they needed to put their personal feelings aside.
Owen came into Eric's office, and he promised his loyalty to Thorne, who said he appreciated Owen's efforts.
In Ridge's office, Steffy insisted she would leave the company so that Rick could stay. Ridge realized that Brooke had pressured Steffy into the decision. He was adamant that under no circumstances would he allow Steffy to make such a stupid sacrifice. He warned Brooke that Steffy was staying and Rick had to go. Ridge accused Rick of manipulating Steffy and Brooke in order to stay at Forrester. Steffy said she wanted to leave the company. Brooke continued that Rick belonged at Forrester. Ridge was furious that Brooke would send his daughter out of the company to keep her son employed.
Rick, eavesdropping outside the door, entered and asked if his mother had room in her car for all his boxes.
Rick told his mother and Steffy that he appreciated their efforts. Ridge asked for a moment alone with Brooke. He quizzed her about Rick persuading her that Steffy could leave Forrester so he could stay. Brooke lied to Ridge that Rick had nothing to do with her decision to ask Steffy to step down from working at Forrester so that Rick could retain his job. Ridge warned Brooke that they had agreed they would not let Rick come between them. He told Brooke he could not and would not work with Rick. Brooke was adamant that Rick shouldn't have to leave the company.
She told Ridge that Rick felt he should be allowed to stay, but Rick had been clear that if it could only be one of them, then Steffy should stay. Ridge said Rick was a manipulator. He added that he had bent over backwards to prevent Rick from ripping their marriage apart. He begged Brooke to let go of trying to keep Rick at Forrester.
Brooke argued that Steffy's departure was a temporary solution. She reminded Ridge that Rick had saved him from falling to his death. Ridge said that wasn't going to clear the way for Rick to inherit the family business and Steffy. Brooke was alarmed that Ridge was so negative about her son. Ridge told her that when he looked into Rick's eyes before Rick saved him, he knew Rick had hesitated about pulling him back up to the roof. He looked at Brooke and said Rick had to go.
Brooke insisted that they could make it work, but Ridge wouldn't budge on the idea. As they argued, Katie entered and told them that they had to start the press conference.
In his office, Rick told Steffy how much he appreciated her gesture of leaving the company so that he could stay. Steffy said the shipping office at Forrester could wait. She added that Rick's accomplishments with Forrester International were much more important than anything she had done. They embraced and Rick kissed Steffy passionately.
Later, Marcus ran into Rick in the hallway, and they shared nasty looks and words. Rick asked where Marcus' uniform was, and he curtly answered that it was at the cleaners. Steffy told Marcus that Rick had just saved her father's life.
Thomas stopped to see Pam at her old receptionist's desk. She told him that Rick didn't like her, so she was back to being a receptionist. Thomas was wearing a sweater that Pam had made for him. He thanked her and said he wanted to get out of there before the fireworks got started.
Owen also stopped by Pam's desk as Rick passed him in the hall. Jake was also present as Owen challenged Rick for taking credit for the surf line in front of Pam. Rick told Owen that the surf line was tanking. He added that Owen was in way over his head and should be waxing surfboards. Rick promised Owen that he'd be fired if Rick stayed on at Forrester. Pam watched in concern.
Stephanie and Taylor gabbed about Ridge and Rick, and Taylor doubted that Brooke would ever let Rick leave the company. Stephanie disagreed and told Taylor that Rick prevented Ridge from falling off the roof. Taylor noted that Rick wasn't supposed to be at the company. He was supposed to be gone and never should have been anywhere near Ridge or the roof. Stephanie was sure Rick would use it to his advantage.
Stephanie anticipated the press conference would announce Rick's ouster as president. Stephanie hoped Rick would be fired. Taylor told Stephanie that Brooke would never hold up her end of the bargain and kick Rick out of Forrester, but Stephanie said Brooke would have no choice if she wanted to keep Ridge.
At Forrester, reporters anxiously waited for the press conference, and Ridge joined Brooke, Eric, and Thorne at the podium. He congratulated Rick for his role as president, and then said he wanted to congratulate all the people at Forrester before he made any further announcements.
Brooke interrupted him. She droned on that Forrester was a family business and that Eric made sure all his kids were a part of the company. Brooke said she came to make an announcement, but she knew the family wouldn't give up in the face of adversity. She said she was about to make a life-changing announcement. Photographers snapped photos as Brooke stopped in a dramatic pause.

Friday, February 27
The press pushed Brooke to stop hinting and make her announcement. Brooke evaded and stalled, seemingly afraid to spit out what she intended to announce.
Brooke apologized for being flustered, and explained that it had been a rough year for the Foresters. She told the press corps that the latest Forrester line would debut in a month and they should watch their mailbox for invitations. She commended the hard work and attention to details of Eric's designs, with Ridge as CEO, Rick as president, and Thorne as vice president. And then she fell silent. Stephanie, Thorne, and Felicia looked around nervously as it became clear Broke did not intend to publicly fire Rick as she had promised. Katie went to the podium and took the mike away from Brooke and stated the reporters could call her office with any questions.
Aunt Pam and Owen fielded angry phone calls. Marcus arrived and announced that the reporters were very unhappy. Pam said they were angry with reason-they were promised a big announcement and all Brooke told them was to stay tuned. Marcus informed Owen and Pam that Thorne was supposed to be promoted to president, but that Brooke had not made the announcement.
Back in Eric's office, Stephanie stomped across the room and demanded to know why Brooke hadn't made the announcement. Brooke said she couldn't go through with it. Stephanie accused Brooke of using sex as a weapon. She said Brooke thought she could take Ridge down the hall for a little "nookie" and Ridge would forget the horrible things Rick did to their family.
Steffy jumped in to defend Rick. She said Rick was a good person and he shouldn't lose his job just because her dad didn't like Rick talking to her. Steffy said she and Brooke had spoken before the press conference and she decided that she should be the one to quit working at Forrester. Her family protested, but Steffy insisted it was the best thing for everyone concerned.
Ridge stormed out of the office and down the hall. Brooke chased after him and tried to explain what she had done and why. Ridge said he could not even bear to look at her and said he was not willing to have that conversation with her. He left in a huff, keys in hand.
Back in Eric's office, Stephanie announced that even though Brooke hadn't said it to the press, Rick was still fired and should get out. Eric asked Stephanie to stop it. Stephanie said when Ridge stormed out, he was telling Eric that he could not work with Rick under any circumstances. Thorne and Felicia both agreed and said they would not work with Rick, either. Eric informed them that Rick was going to stay. Stephanie said she hoped Ridge had made a point to show Brooke how impossible the situation was, so she would come to her senses.
Bridget made a mission of mercy to Taylor and did her best to persuade Taylor to intervene in the animosity between Bridget's brother, Rick, and Ridge. Taylor said if Brooke weren't able to change Ridge's mind, she wouldn't be able to change it, either. Bridget asked her to try; Bridget said it wasn't fair for Rick to be forced out of his own father's company just to appease Ridge. Taylor reminded Bridget that Rick had done a lot of things that hurt her family, and Taylor hoped Rick got what he deserved.
Taylor said Rick was out of control, and being fired was exactly what he needed. Bridget reminded Taylor that Brooke was the one who decided to fire Rick, her own son, and that it had been hard on her. Taylor said it was about time Brooke made a good decision. Taylor sent Bridget off with a warning for Brooke. She said that Ridge loved Brooke, but he had his limits. Taylor advised Bridget to tell her mother not to push Ridge beyond his limits.
Ridge showed up unexpectedly at Taylor's door. As soon as she saw Ridge, she realized Brooke had not fired Rick. Ridge explained that Steffy offered to sacrifice herself for Rick. Taylor said they had to put a stop to that and get Rick to back off. She said Rick had already taken Phoebe from them and they could not let him take their other daughter. Ridge seemed relieved to hear someone who shared his point of view. He and Taylor embraced.
Ridge left and, right on his heels, Stephanie arrived to see Taylor. Stephanie and Taylor groused about the fact that Rick and Brooke had involved Steffy in their scheme and tried to manipulate her into quitting her job. Taylor mentioned that she and Ridge were in total agreement, and Stephanie smiled. Stephanie said Brooke might have finally crossed the line and tanked her own marriage. Taylor said Ridge had only come to her because she was Steffy's mother. Stephanie believed that Ridge went to Taylor because he could count on Taylor in a way he could not count on Brooke.
Bridget ran into Owen in the hallway of Forrester and he filled her in on the press conference. He said Brooke didn't fire Rick and that it was not a very popular decision. Bridget said Owen had to realize that Brooke was Rick's mother and that if she had fired her own son, she would not be able to live with herself.
Brooke went home alone and lay on her bed crying, wondering if Ridge would come home and where he had gone when he left the office.
Ridge came in and announced he did not want to talk. Brooke pressed the issue and said they needed to talk. She said the way Ridge looked at her after the press conference with so much anger in his eyes scared her. She said she was only trying to buy them some time to think about the decision. Ridge was furious and said Brooke had given her loyalty to her son, the man who had caused him more pain than he had ever known, instead of giving her loyalty to her husband.
Brooke said Rick was her responsibility; she had given birth to him and raised him. Ridge asked her to turn her back on her own child and she couldn't do it. She said she bought time for them to heal until Ridge was ready to forgive Rick. Ridge asked what would happen if he were never ready to forgive Rick. Brooke said he only needed time to heal. She said Ridge could not control his hatred for Rick, but she could not control her love for Rick. Rick was her son, flesh and blood, and Ridge was the love of her life, and she did not want to have to choose between them.
Brooke said she wanted Ridge to love her as she loved him, unconditionally and more than life itself. She asked Ridge if he could do that. He gritted his teeth and seemingly shook his head no.
Unbeknownst to the rest of the family, Rick and Steffy snuck off to the beach house for a little alone time.
