Powerhouse actress Susan Flannery (Stephanie) has been known to strike fear in the hearts of soap newbies, but Jennifer Finnigan reports that in the beginning of her stint as Bridget, she was more in awe than scared of the daytime vet. "I was somewhat intimidated by her as actress because I'm such a fan of her work," says Finnegan. "But I was never really intimidated by her as a person. I admire her acting so much. I think she's every bit as good as Ellen Burstyn, who's one of my idols. Susan is tough and so resilient but she's such a fine person, a quality woman. We've become very close and I really appreciate her friendship. I really admire her and I love her, I really do."
Finnigan also reveals just how loyal and nurturing Flannery has been to her. "When I had all those emotional scenes with her [Stephanie found out that Bridget had discovered Brooke and Deacon's affair], Susan came in an hour early for me so we could go over our lines. Now, Susan lives a couple of hours away from the studio but she still came in early. We had like fifty pages of material, you know crying, screaming monologues. We came in at 7:00 in the morning, which means she had to get up very early to do that for me. We ran our lines again and again and again, changed; them around. She we saying 'Whatever you need. Whatever feels good for you.' I felt so protected and safe with her." Flannery's dedication didn't just end with rehearsals either. "Sometimes
camera angels or lighting can be bad but for those scenes she really protected me like I've never seen," marvels Finnigan. "She was changing angles if she didn't think it would work and right there fixing the lighting. I'm so grateful for her."
