...dedicated to Steph! And she's so right.
Ok, ok, so she's not dead YET, but Queen Stephanie said her goodbyes last week in some of the most tear-jerking scenes I've seen on Bold since Caroline and Taylor died. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house or in the viewing audience and saying goodbye to the matriarch of the Forrester Family was harder than I ever imagined it could be. But Megs, you're thinking, she's not quite dead yet, there will be more scenes and her final death scene is still coming up! Well, not for me. After hearing that Stephanie will die in the arms of Brooke, this old gal will not be watching. The end of one era, the Queen of Bold, is going to usher in the beginning of another, and I'm not too thrilled with how one is ending and the other is beginning so I choose not to patronize watching Stephanie's end in the arms of a woman who spent her entire life trying to ruin Stephanie's family. Oh, I get it Megs, I'm going to hear. You just want Stephanie to end her life in Taylor's arms because you're a Taylor fan. Not a chance, folks, and I'll touch on that more near the end of the column. I said my goodbyes to Stephanie last week along with her family and I TOTALLY THANK the staff at Bold for sending me a Team Stephanie tshirt, I'll wear it proudly the day Stephanie dies, but like I said, I cannot watch the end of one of the most magnificent eras on daytime in the manner they have chosen to end it. I'd rather think about Stephanie's past, and the future of Bold.
Stephanie Douglass Forrester. What a powerful, fantastic character. Even Bill Spencer and Bill Spencer JR admired her and I think at times feared her. Even through Brad Bell chose to rewrite history (Ridge's paternity, Eric/Stephanie's romance, Stephanie's involvement in the company) and have now written her to adore Brooke, nobody could hold a candle to the Queen. A fierce mother, a sharp business woman and a very protective mother and grandmother, Stephanie could pick up the phone and have anything she wanted done to anyone without spending a dime unlike Dollar Bill. Billy Jr is feared, the Queen is respected. As a day 1 viewer, I remember how it started, how it went for the first few years before Brad Bell took over the reigns and turned the show into something totally different than his father's vision. When the show began, Stephanie and Eric's marriage was on the rocks because of Eric's womanizing and Stephanie's control streak, one probably feeding off of the other. She caught Brooke Logan trying to infiltrate her family by hiding letters and lying to Caroline and that set off a huge pattern for the next 20 years of hatred between Stephanie and Brooke with on again-off again truces because Stephanie loved her sons so much.
Over and over, though, Brooke proved why she couldn't and shouldn't be trusted, and Stephanie had to go to some pretty great lengths to keep Brooke's legs from around both of her sons' laps as well as her ex-husband. Ruthless? Hell yes. Bitter and vicious? For sure. Manipulative and plotting? You know it. Stephanie, though, always did what she thought was in the best interests of her kids, not of herself. Her family came first, the Forrester name and reputation she and Eric built for nearly thirty years before Brooke came into their lives and mounted every single male member of the Forrester clan wanting to be a Mrs. Stephanie, above all, was family first at all costs, including her own happiness. Most of the time she was right, as we found out time and time again. Queen Forrester was a woman well respected, honored and powerful and it was that strength that Brooke always wanted, that power; that magnetism. Yes, boys and girls, the supercouple of the show was indeed Brooke and Stephanie as Brad pointed out, as the younger woman tried hard to get into the family and the matriarch worked just as hard keeping her out. So why am I not going to watch Stephanie dying in the arms of Brooke? Ain't happening. First off, a few random thoughts about last week, because I have to keep the column short talking about Stephanie, it's hard to type and wipe your eyes from bawling every ten seconds...
That's the main reason I WILL NOT watch Stephanie's final day on earth even though I desperately want to in order to honor the Queen. I said my goodbyes during the party along with her family and I will NOT subject myself to watching Stephanie's last breath in Brooke's face after the nastiness Brooke has done and continues to do with the family. Brad may be using this to pass the torch from the elder matriarch to Brooke to run with, but he better figure out quickly that over half the audience are Taylor fans and Stephanie fans and they're not going to put up with Brooke running the family or walking all over Taylor and her kids. I think Brad's got a surprise coming for him since he's chosen to go down this path. Like I said earlier, it's not Taylor I want Stephanie's last minute with. By all rights, Stephanie should die in Eric's arms, the love of her life, the man she married and went through ups and downs for fifty years with; With Jim McCook, her co-worker and partner since day 1 of the show. Not Taylor, not Brooke, not her kids, not Ridge; ERIC. To do anything less is dirtying up the memory of Stephanie Forrester. I WILL NOT watch Stephanie's dying day. I will not watch this turn into the Brooke Taking Charge story. At least we know Stephanie asked Steffy to take control as well and I totally believe that it's going to take Steffy, Taylor AND Brooke to fill Stephanie's shoes.
Farewell, our dear, beloved Queen. Nobody will ever replace you....... Ever!!!!
