Dante makes 'Bold' play for Bridget
By CAROLYN HINSEY
Antonio Sabato Jr.
Dante tries to persuade Bridget to raise his baby with him next week on "The Bold and the Beautiful," as the baby's mom, Felicia, slowly slips away.
"He's in love with Bridget; he's not using her," says Antonio Sabato Jr., who plays Dante. "And he's not using this baby as, 'Finally I'm going to get Bridget in my life.' He wants to say, 'Let's take care of this kid together. Let's be a family. I'll wait for you. I've been patient till now, and I can wait the rest of my life. That's how much I care about you. But I need your help!'"
Bridget's marriage to Nick just broke up on Tuesday, so she probably will need a little time. ... But she'll rally to Dante's side after her sister Felicia dies of cancer next week.
"The fact that this baby is not going to have his real mother is hard for him," says Sabato.
The family will gather in the gatehouse to say goodbye.
Besides Dante, "Nick is there, Bridget is there, her parents and her brothers. She wants everybody to know that she's going to a better place and it's not the worst day of their lives, even though it feels like it is for most of the people in the room, including Dante. But Felicia is the type of person who wants to go with a bang. She doesn't want anybody to feel sorry for her."
Indeed, Felicia asks the family to toast her life with champagne as she leaves it.
"Losing Felicia is very emotional for everybody," says the actor. "This whole story line has been emotional for everybody involved. From Dante finding out that he's the father to losing Felicia, it's been a real journey. I'm really proud of everything that has gone on."
Happy, too, that his character may finally have a love scene.
"There have been some dream sequences," he says, "but they've taken the first eight months or so to establish this character: what he's all about, where he comes from, what is his purpose. And now, he's part of the Forrester family for the rest of his life, so that was really cool."
As the former boyfriend of Felicia Forrester and future boyfriend of Bridget Forrester.
"Dante's love is Bridget," says Sabato. "She is the main reason why he's in Los Angeles, why he came to this country [from Italy]. Anything can change, though. Felicia could turn around and [survive]. Then, maybe he could love her in time. Maybe. His main concern is Bridget, always, but anything can change at any time - because it's a soap opera!"
